It is time for Mitt Romney to hang it up and leave the race for the Republican nomination for President. That is not the most insane statement of the day. It is not even a statement based on Romney’s liberal ideology and the desire of conservatives to have a real conservative nominee.
Why should Romney leave the race?
Erick Erickson over at Red State wrote a piece today called “The Frontrunner.” In the piece, he talks about having dinner with Pat Cadell, who was Jimmy Carter’s pollster. Cadell is regularly on Fox News, which may revoke his status as a liberal in good standing but Cadell made a great point.
He said that if the Democrats had a “front runner” who had only won three of the first eight primaries and had just been blown out in three primaries, the Democrats would have had another candidate out the next day.
Romney cannot win. What states did he win? He won New Hampshire, which is virtually his home state. He won Florida and Nevada, where he was able to carpet bomb the airwaves with negative ads. When he has not had a connection to a state or been able to outspend his opponents 10-1, he has lost. Romney has been running for five years. He lost in 2008 to John McCain and the last words of McCain’s concession speech had not even been uttered before Romney was running again.
Romney lost Iowa after campaigning there for five years. He did not get as many votes as he did in 2008. This story has been repeated. In Florida, Romney won the counties where there were fewer voters in 2012 than there were in 2008.
That is not a good sign.
Florida was not the only state to notice that phenomena.
The last three states show an alarming decline in Romney’s support. In Missouri, his support dropped by 63% from 2008. In Minnesota, it dropped by 69% and even in Colorado, a state he was supposed to win, his support dropped by 46% from 2008.
Even Romney supporters are not enthusiastic about Romney.
Some people accept the myth that Romney can beat Obama. That myth clearly assumes facts that are not in evidence.
Romney can only win in states where he is able to outspend his opponents significantly. He has been fortunate that the Santorum, Gingrich and Paul campaigns have not had the financial resources he has had.
Yet, with all of Romney’s money and with all of Romney support from both the conservative and liberal media establishment, he still cannot close the deal.
Today, Mitt Romney will speak to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). If Mitt Romney holds true to form, he will give one of his stump speeches and will ignore the conservative movement.
If Mitt Romney really cares about America, the Republican Party and the conservative movement, his speech will be very simple.
His speech would be an announcement that he is withdrawing from the race to allow someone who has a chance to win.
Getting out of the race is a message the Republican establishment should have been giving Romney all this week.
Somehow, I doubt that Romney will make that speech and I doubt the Republican establishment has been telling him that.
Mitt, you should realize by now that if a Republican is to go into the White House in 2013, it won’t be you. For the good of the Party, the Nation and the Conservative movement, you should step aside and let someone else take a shot at uniting the Republican Party.

I've noticed that, too! He sometimes gets a surprised look when there is no surprise. I assumed it was a browlift. They often end up looking chronically "surprised."

What about the autocratic monarch in chief and his minions to both the left and the right do we all not yet understand????
Permalink Reply by victoria lites on February 10, 2012 at 12:38pm I'm down for his getting out and have been since the beginning! He is another one with NO experience in Washington just like he brags and we have one of those in house now! We need a true conservative with a bit of know how..that doesn't just brag all the time about time spent in the private sector and how great he has been at it~ Lord knows it is all gift from God Romney has done nothing on his own!
Oh, gosh. I was running C-Span in the background, on the big screen.
Romney has come on! Attacking the Conservatives: SOP.
Personally, I now find Romney to be nearly as irritating as Obama.
Switch to FOX. They are running Mitt too! Live. Shut off the telly.
Don't get me wrong: I like to watch other candidates:
Sure hope we don't have 4 more years of someone that I shall banish from my presence! My sympathies to those in DC who must sit through this....I'll look at the Mitt transcript, perhaps.

He should get out
Presidency is just a medal for his blouse
Permalink Reply by Brad Myers on February 10, 2012 at 1:18pm Over the past several elections, I have volunteered my time to make phone calls to support the candidate. If Romney gets the nomination, I will NOT volunteer my time. However, I will still vote for Romney in November, 2012. BUT NO VOLUNTEERING FOR THE "Mittster".

The press has developed the narrative and the regime fed it to them.
Romney is the feast.
It is up to we the people to determine who is the nominee.
Permalink Reply by Elaine Jex on February 10, 2012 at 1:42pm Theresa, I agree with you totally. I have thought for a while that Newt and Santorum put their egos aside and team up right now to eliminated Romney for the sake of the country. I really don't care who's president or vice president. I would prefer Newt as president. If they really cared about the country, that's exactly what they should do.I ABSOLUTELY can't even stand to hear Romney speak, just like Obama.
