The term hero gets overused in America. But the time has come where we need heroes. We are a nation with a history of heroes but we need heroes today.
What do we need heroes for today?
My son wrote a school assignment where he had to answer the question, “Who is your hero?” He said I was his hero.
I don’t feel much like a hero.
Every day, my children go to school. They and their classmates are mercifully oblivious to the fact they are $55,000 in debt. That number is only growing.
Anyone whose brain cells are not on the endangered species list realizes we cannot keep on spending money we do not have. The growing debt bomb is just that, a bomb that is threatening to engulf all of us.
We have launched our third round of “Quantitative Easing.” In other words, we are printing more money. But it is not only printing more money, the government is borrowing more money. The borrowing is short term borrowing, which means the debt must be refinanced often.
This scheme works because interest rates are at an artificial and historically low rate. These low interest rates simply will not last. Sooner or later, they will naturally rise and if our creditors decide the United States is no longer a good credit risk, our interest rates will skyrocket.
What does that mean?
If interest rates go up, even by modest amounts, the cost of servicing our debt will go up astronomically.
America will have one of two choices. Either there will be radical cuts in government or there will have to be massive tax hikes to cover the costs of simply servicing the debt.
The truth is there can never be enough tax money raised. There will have to be spending cuts.
What would they cut?
Unfortunately, what they would cut would destroy America. The programs that would not be cut are the domestic programs that politicians use to buy votes. America’s military would not simply be cut. It would be destroyed.
America would no longer be a superpower.
What our politicians would do is simply find ways to kick the problem down the road instead of solving the problem.
The real problem is we have too many politicians who want to buy their careers with the public’s money. Alexis DeTocqueville warned us that Democracy in America would only be safe until politicians discovered they could bribe the American people with their own money.
We need heroes who are willing to go to Washington and are willing to deal with America’s fiscal disaster. We need heroes who will go to Washington and realize the nation cannot keep spending money like drunken Democrats.
We can eliminate almost the entire deficit if we simply start going through the budget and eliminating programs that are nothing more than organized waste. We can start by eliminating programs that are riddled with fraud. We can eliminate programs that are nothing more than spending to help politicians get reelected. We can go through the budget and start looking at programs that do not work.
We need heroes who will step up and be heroic. It only takes courage. Regrettably, courage is non-existent in Washington.

Every day you bring us information, make us laugh, (sometimes make me cuss!), give of your time and provide a place where we can all stay in touch, share info, make a plan, and just vent. Any Tea Party leader is a hero. Thank you for all you do.

He begged Bernanke NOT to do this. But anyway, this is encouraging! http://www.glennbeck.com/2012/09/20/the-section-of-mitt-romneys-gaf...

Permalink Reply by Richard Curtis on September 21, 2012 at 9:02am It is easy to get the idea of a Poverty Level bought by the American People. Sounds reasonable, right? Then, once it has become institutionalized, they raise it up to halfway up the middle class, so more folks in the Entitlement Scheme can qualify for it. It is being used for vote buying, nothing less.
