The Republican Party has a major problem. It can win and it can win big. It can get Mitt Romney elected and vanquish the Democrats into a permanent minority.
There is one simple thing they need to do, but there is also one major problem they need to realize exists and needs to be corrected.
What is the problem and what is the solution?
The problem is the Republicans are terrible on messaging.
Often Republican talk about small businesses and entrepreneurs. That’s great. Our economy is built on the back of small businesses. But too often Republicans talk to small business owners and forget about small business employees. They talk to business owners but do not talk to those who run those businesses.
Republicans need to not only talk to the Middle Class but also need to do it in a manner they understand. Mitt Romney does not speak Middle Class. Neither does Paul Ryan.
They need to understand this and tailor their messaging to the Middle Class.
What is one simple thing he and the Republicans can do to not only reach the Middle Class but to help them?
On Monday, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and every Republican candidate out there should endorse one simple idea. They should commit that two years after Mitt Romney is sworn in as President, the Republicans will have gas down to $1 a gallon.
This is a major issue for the Middle Class that as Joe Biden said, has been buried for the almost four years.
Gas prices were around $1.80 when Barack Obama took over. Under his sterling leadership, the price of gas has doubled. In California, it is almost triple that but California is partially responsible for that problem.
High gas prices are a huge problem. They are a tax on the middle class. They are also a wealth transfer to nations that hate us.
For people who must commute, the high gas prices have destroyed much, if not all of their disposable income. Not only does the high price of gas hit Middle Class Americans directly, but also there is an indirect hit. The high price of gas also makes most consumer products cost more.
Cutting the price of gas to $1 a gallon is something the average Middle Class voter understands.
For Mitt Romney, this may well be more than an election gimmick. It might make the difference between a two term successful Romney Presidency and seeing Mitt Romney share the same fate as Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter.
The reality is we will see very little in spending cuts next year. The Republicans have controlled the House of Representatives for the last two years and spending has gone up under the Republicans. Neither the Republicans nor Democrats seem to have much of an appetite or inclination to cut spending. Romney says he wants to cut taxes but his commitment to cutting taxes does not seem significant.
The economy must be stimulated. Romney will help in blocking bad regulations and giving businesses some relief from nightmare regulations, but that will not be enough.
If Romney is going to succeed, he must stimulate the economy.
If he is not going to cut taxes to stimulate the economy, he has to do something else. Interest rates cannot be cut any further. They are almost effectively zero right now.
Getting the price of gas down to $1 a gallon will do that.
It will provide Americans with more disposable income. First, Americans will be paying less, which means they will be spending some of that money, stimulating the economy. The ripple effect will help; making consumer goods will be less expensive as well.
How do the Republicans cut the price of gas?
Open federal lands up for drilling. Open offshore areas for drilling. Increase the permitting process and increasing production.
By simply signing an executive order in 2008, George W. Bush caused the price of gas from $4.25 a gallon to $1.80. Barack Obama’s first act was to sign an executive order revoking Bush’s executive order and forbidding off shore drilling.
Bush’s order was mostly symbolic since Congress needed to repeal a law it has passed forbidding certain off shore drilling.
If Mitt Romney is not successful, the Democrats will put someone in the White House in 2016 who is further to the left than Barack Obama is but that person, unlike Obama will be competent.
That person will finish what Barack Obama started. That is the end of the United States as a free nation.
This is one simple idea that Mitt Romney and the Republicans could do that would not only enthuse the Middle Class about them for this election, but when they are successful, they could make the Republican Party the dominant political party for a generation.
The question is, will they do it?

Romney is a problem solver and I am sure he is aware of what he has to do to win this election. I believe that he has a business plan for America and he will put that plan into motion once he is in the White house. The problem is that Obama has divided America more deeply than we can imagine. And that is a big problem that requires addressing.

Permalink Reply by JC Patriot on October 14, 2012 at 8:34am The press might spin it as a lie, but it would really be a failure.
Unfortunately, we have both a failure and a liar in there now!
Permalink Reply by Doug Nicholson on October 14, 2012 at 2:45pm Agreed, Juana. Under $2/gal. would be a much more realistic goal. If it goes lower, R&R can still claim credit for the drop. Promising gas under $1/gal. and failing to deliver would be a disaster that would come back to haunt them in 2016.

I also agree with your statement.
But I can never get a question answered that has been bothering me,and probably many others.
WHY aren't they making him come forth with his reason for having his records sealed, and why can he run with out proving his Citizenship, his Collage records,I want to know what he wrote for his thesis in collage, in researching I found it was on Marxism, don't people think we have a right to know these things about how and who bought his way in the first election ,and was never question, Something just don't add up.and if the went to school they have to know 2+2 equals 4..
Why aren't they talking about his membership in Down Low Club in Chicago? about his use with cocaine use ?
That doesn't make for stability for a President, now does it ? It is out there and If I can get it so can they ,you know they have to know more about him than there bringing out, so again my question is "WHY" all the secrets not being brought to light?????
Is there really any one in our Government that is FOR THE PEOPLE ?? do they think ALL the people are in LA ,LA Land ???
When the Black Religious Leaders are spending $1 MILLION to Defeat Obama and the rest are setting back happy Barack is buying them CHEAP cell phones and thinking he going to give them money like the one lady mentioned, you have to know we still have a LOT of Stupid out there, but we also know that is his what he is counting on.The question what are the percentages of Stupid to the Intelligent people that will be voting?
The book "THE AMATURE " has a lot of information written, but it still doesn't touch on a lot of things that need answers,WHY , are they letting the voters ballots go out of the country, knowing SORSO has a foot hold on the outcome. WHY????? You know the AMERICAN people, have a lot of questions that can't find answers to .
Is there any one that we put in office really working for the AMERICAN people???? If so why are they letting all this be keep a secret about BHO???
Permalink Reply by Debrajoe Smith-Beatty on October 14, 2012 at 8:14am Very good question Dorris. In America there are people who vote Democrat because their parents voted that way. There are people whose families where union people and "BY GOD I VOTE DEMOCRAT."
And they vote party not the candidate. I believe that the Congress of the US government must be held accountable for the Obama mess. They have the power to reign in this bastard. Yes, Mitch M., Harry Reid as the Senate leaders must be brought up on ethics violations. John Boehner must be given the boot. And Nancy Pelosi is one big mouth and nothing more.
And Obama is being protected. Yes, foreign money is lining the pockets of the US Congress.
We need to cut the physical size of the US Government. Abolish the duplicate agencies. Abolish the damn CZARS. This is the USA.
We must stop the perks of the Congress, ie: Nancy Pelosi and her jet and the stocked bar. That woman must be an alcholic.
And the US Government must stop the welfare benefits to illegals. Illegal is a crime and our government rewards the behavior.
Obama is a con artist who has pulled off the biggest hoax in the history of the USA. The Congress must answer for this.

Permalink Reply by Michael Bowler on October 14, 2012 at 7:13am Without doubt, the opening of many areas known to contain oil will cause prices to fall. The chances that the price would fall to $1.00 per gallon are pretty small and raise another issue. For gas prices to fall to $1.00 per gallon requires the cost of a barrel to fall to around $20.00 or less. At that price, many of the newer areas and the technology to extract from them become cost prohibitive, all shale oil and tar sands projects become un-viable. Many of the deep water projects will suffer the same fate, forcing production to close in a large portion of American finds.
For American oil production to remain cost effective, it is necessary for prices to settle around $40.00 per barrel, giving us a gas price around $1.70 - $2.00. At those prices we can have enormous expansion within the economy. It is when prices get over $3.00 that we experience real economic harm, a great part of why we can't get much growth now.
Romney can't cause prices to drop without taking on the current restrictions codified into US law, a battle that will certainly be much easier if the republicans can get control of the senate. The basic premise of getting fuel prices down and helping them stay down, is correct. Doing this will bring about a serious economic expansion, coupling it with reductions in government growth that allow the economy to catch up DC's costs could eventually cause the US to become the world economic powerhouse it has been since at least the end of WWII.
Just being realistic...
Permalink Reply by Judson Phillips on October 14, 2012 at 7:18am Anyone remember that people told John F. Kennedy that man could not make it to the moon by the end of the decade? The point is, if you set a goal you take steps to achieve the goal. If Romney advocates $1 a gallon gas and only gets it down to $1.50 a gallon, do you think people will be complaining?
Permalink Reply by Michael Bowler on October 14, 2012 at 7:36am Judson, the people won't complain. Like I said, I agree with the basic premise of the article, it is the actual number that is both not really attainable and if it were attained would actually drive production back to cheaper extraction locations.
What is most important in this discussion is that the press would entirely forget the current prices and just hound Romney for NOT attaining the golden $1.00 goal. It is important to remember at all times that the media are our enemies, a fifth column of true believers that will twist and shape the message for the democrats. In reality, the media are the reason the republicans have a messaging problem. The message has to go through the skewed media to reach the average "independent voter", forcing the message formulation to be far less effective. If the republicans just came out and said what they really think in an unfiltered fashion, the sheer volume of facts would be stripped away by the media and supplanted with even more misinformation. Until this media monopoly on information is finally broken, there will always be problems getting the message out without misinformation commentary attached to it.

Do your homework, we aren't going to hasve support by the press!! Most of them are socialists/marxists!! Remember John Mccain, who in his quest to be loved by the press, tossed away our country to this Marxist basturd. To hell with this feel good mentality. I spent a lot of years turning around operations (ON A MUCH SMALLER SCALE THAN ROMNEY), & I promise you Romney knows how to look the freight train in the eye as it is coming down the track, we just pray he will take the same tact as he did with the successful conversions as is his success story!! Also would love to see a community effort with the black clergy, there is a ripe harvest waiting to be picked with the GOOD black community if he will develop a ground floor communication plan!!
