NOTE: I authored the following inspired by Judson's "An Adult Moment" thread - if you feel like I do about raising the debt ceiling - please sign the petition, forward the link to friends, copy and paste on a blog, etc.
Most importantly, make a comment on this thread so it will stay visible on the front page -
Thank You!
Fellow Patriots,
Despite the clear message the country sent to Washington on November 2nd, special interests are at it again with their mischief and shenanigans. Congressional leaders, now Republican, want to raise the debt ceiling AGAIN - Congress just raised the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion back in February - no amount of money seems to be enough, it never is. Well.....Enough is Enough!
If the new Congress gives in to establishment pressure and media alarmism about "shutting down the government" by voting to increase the debt ceiling once again, you will know that the status quo has prevailed. You will know that Congress, despite the rhetoric of the midterm elections, is doing business as usual. You will know that the simple notion of balancing the budget, by limiting federal spending to federal revenue, remains a shallow and laughable campaign platitude.
Sign the "Force Congress to Keep Their Word" Petition
We must make sure that conservatives use their majority in the House and their stronger position in the Senate to roll back the Obama administration's health care overhaul and press for sharp, rapid cuts in spending in all areas.
Unfortunately, Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are afraid to stand up and call for the one solution to our nation's debt crisis: freeze all spending and cut 10% out of the budget. Congress' spending frenzy cannot continue. It's time to force our elected officials to stop - we can start by making sure they do not raise the debt ceiling.

Of course so called "congressional leaders" will tell America that they plan on balancing the budget soon, but they just need some time. After all, we have to keep the government open, right? We can't have an "emergency" shutdown of vital government services. But somehow Congress always finds money for emergency spending, in the form of supplemental appropriations bills for TARP bailouts, cash for clunkers, and the like. Why is there never an emergency that justifies less spending???
That's why I'm asking you to personally tell Congress not to increase the amount of money the government can borrow by signing your name to the "Force Congress to Keep Their Promise" petition. I'm challenging conservative activists to collect at least 5,000 signatures in the next 72 hours to give Members of Congress something to think about as they return to Washington.
Think about the consequences of even higher national debt: higher taxes, less jobs, and less freedom... Make sure Congress knows where you stand on the issue by adding your name to the "Force Congress to Keep Their Promise" petition.
We cannot begin to repair the damage Congress' spending spree has inflicted on our nation without taking a strong stand against additional debt. That's why I'm reaching out to you today. I can't do this alone - I need to know that you stand with me. So I hope I can count on you to stay true to our conservative values by adding your name to the "Force Congress to
Keep Their Promise" petition.
If we are able to prevent Congress from raising the debt ceiling - and begin cutting down the budget - we will be able to get our economy back on track. So please sign the petition today!
