Mitt Romney is going to be the nominee, barring a miracle of biblical proportions. The folks in the Newt campaign don’t like that but as Herman Cain said, “the numbers don’t lie.”
The question is what happens next.
Conservatives do not trust Romney. Why should we? He has taken at least two positions on every issue except for his name, where he took three.
We need a conservative VP and we need a conservative Republican platform that Romney must embrace.
How do we do this?
After all, Romney picks his VP and has a lot of control over what the platform will be.
Not so fast.
That has been the recent tradition but that is not what the rules say.
The Rules of the Republican Convention say that the delegates pick the Vice Presidential nominee and then they pick the platform.
What does this mean?
I was in a room today with some of the top conservative grass roots activists in the nation. We were discussing the future and what we would have to do to save this nation. With one exception, we agreed we do not trust Romney.
Romney’s record is that of a big government statist. He claims he is a conservative but the problem is Romney has all of the credibility of a used car salesman who used to be a member of Congress.
So what do we do?
If Romney is Romney, he is gong to pick another liberal as his VP candidate. At best, he will choose a milquetoast moderate. We must put a real conservative on the ticket whether he likes it or not.
Some really sharp political operators, some of whom I know have put together a website called secondballot.org.
They are organizing to remind people that the GOP does not have to rubber stamp what Romney does or even wants.
Romney is the worst possible candidate that the GOP could have picked. If Romney did not have the huge war chest that he had amassed, he would have never won. He was simply able to outspend the conservatives in the race until they were gone.
But Romney is not going to excite the base. He isn’t even going to motivate the base. We conservatives need to jump in to do something because we must defeat Barack Obama this fall.
We also have to think of the future. If we have a conservative VP nominee, there are three possibilities. Romney loses; the VP becomes the front-runner for 2016. If Romney wins, he becomes the heir apparent for 2020 and if Romney wins and for some reason does not complete his term, the VP becomes President.
This is why we must have a conservative VP nominee and why we must have a conservative platform. We must have a platform that actually advocates a conservative agenda to be accomplished.

In any event, Newt is not going to be in the race come November. To write someone in at that point would be political suicide!

Permalink Reply by Jeff Waller on We have been working against the old school GOP for the last 30 years, not so much as the Tea Party, but as voters who do not want the nominee chosen for us, to choose people LIKE Newt and Palin. Don't you think I would prefer to be able to applaud Sarah Palin for winning the nomination? Of course I would! I voted for Newt in the Mississippi primary.
But at this point, with Romney so far ahead, and Palin having missed her chance, no other GOP candidate can win the nomination with the landslide victory and mandate that we need to move forward into the general election with some momentum! Writing in a candidate, which is what you would be doing, would only take away from that momentum. Please don't do that!
We have GOT to come away victorious in November! By 2016, we can have a third party set up and running. The GOP's days are numbered if they will not take conservatives seriously. But we're not ready for that now!
Will you write in Newt or Palin even if he or she has by then endorsed Romney?
If so, then sadly you are a traitor to them.
I expect to hear from Palin, after Newt drops out, that she is endorsing Romney. What would you do then...tear yourself down the middle?

RNC establishment strategy: Publish no poll numbers; spread the word that Romney is the nominee; have people vote based on blackout and misinformation expecting Romney to win big; then hit hard with Romney’s wins and Newt’s losses to bully Newt into dropping. (The news media are complying, including Fox News who are even slamming Newt for his rightful Secret Service protection expense) Please do yourself the honor of reviewing actual polls by doing a Google search for “2012 Republican presidential polls (name state)” and you will see why the RNC is using this tactic. Then spread the word!
Please join me and let’s stay with Newt all the way to Tampa! Let’s support him and thank him for his courage and willingness to sacrifice so much to stay in the race, so at that time he will still be in a viable position to offer true conservative and constitutional answers with bold ideas for a winning campaign platform, and will still be an alternative to the establishment coronated candidate. So again to all those who read, please join me in support of Newt so we may still have a chance to at least rebuild some of the America we love.
Permalink Reply by Ruth Hammons on Since when does anyone really listen to the people?...It is like the 5 hundred and whatever of them run things in their own world and we are excess baggage!...It is way past time to show them we are way more than that by the millions, but how? when we do nothing while our naiton is being torn apart these last 11 years especially!!?? They are ready to pull something on us that has never been done in the US and we will not be able to do anything about what they do; because our hands will be tired! They will use the law against us to keep it that way too! We are being so stupid and it is time to change that! Wait for the corrupt votes if you want to, but it will not be done correctly! It will be as much a fraud as that man that sits where he should be taken out of....Who is brave enough to have another march? and this time we protect ourselves!! and show them we are not going to take it!....You make it sound so easy to decide what is to be for VP but they decide for us; has that not gotten thought to you all yet and they have no intension of letting us enforce our Constitution or any other documents. Read the Declaratrion of Independence and then decide what we shoud do...we have to demand that they all step down and make it deafening so they cannot miss that we are in control!
