A few days ago, Congressman Barbara Lee, from where else but California, was on MSNBC claiming it was imperative that unemployment benefits be extended for an additional 14 weeks. They already are at 99 weeks.
A day earlier, I had stopped at restaurant for lunch. Sometimes voice carry in places and the people next to me were talking loud enough I could easily hear the discussion.
There were two people there, a man and a woman. The woman said her unemployment benefits were running out and she was hoping Congress would extend them. If not, she said, she would have to go out and get a job paying $7 or $8 an hour until she could get a real job.
I have no idea what this woman normally does for a living, but right now, she is taking a two-year vacation at taxpayer expense.
The unemployment fiasco is just another indication that liberals have absolutely no clue about economics. Of course, why learn when you can be a liberal and the drive by media never calls you on your stupidity.
Any economist, perhaps even one as absolutely brain dead as Paul Krugman, will tell you that anytime you subsidize something you get more of it.
If you subsidize beans, you get more beans. Subsidize corn and you get more of it. Subsidize more unemployment and you get more unemployment.
Let’s take our unknown diner for example. She may not make as much money collecting unemployment as she would if she were working, but the difference for her is not enough to make want to go out and get a job. So she remains one of the 14 million unemployed Americans.
Ms. Unknown Diner apparently believes she could easily go and get a job but the pay difference is just not enough to move her out of the unemployment line.
I had heard of stories like Ms. Unknown Diner but had never I had never dealt with anyone personally who was milking unemployment just to have a paid vacation.
Not everyone who is drawing unemployment is mooching off the system. Many people who are freshly laid off thanks to the great Obama depression certainly need the money. Unfortunately, there are many out there who are just using lengthy unemployment benefits as an excuse for some paid vacation.
The good news is because the Democrats are so clueless on economics; they will be the victims of their own policies. As long as the Democrats keep subsidizing unemployment, we are going to keep getting unemployment.
As long as unemployment is north of 9%, Obama can pretty much kiss his reelection good bye.

Remember that the November numbers dropped from 9% to 8.6%? Because while 120,000 new jobs, 315,000 were removed from the roles of those looking for jobs!

1. Keep spending as much as possible, to ensure that the economy stays in the dumps.
2. Keep blaming Bush, the GOP, and the GOP candidates for the bad economy, using all the new and exciting revelations which the dumb GOP keeps unfolding at the debates.
3. At the last minute, around May 2012, release the Pipeline and a bunch of other costly, unionized projects so that union unemployment takes a big drop, just in time unleash a bunch of union spending into the economy and fools the voters into believing that Obama has fixed the economy.
4. Turn loose ACORN (or it current equivalent) onto the electorate, so they can sign up a slew of illegal aliens and Occupy freaks so they can vote.
5. Obama will be blind to the rest of us -- the union vote, along with the votes of the ACORN signups and the people on 2-year unemployment checks, will boost Obama over the top.
6. After the election, Obama will somehow blame the bad economy onto the GOP, and will start the ball rolling to repeal the 2-term limit on the office of President.
I mean, really, what better way to become the Dictator of the US, without firing a shot!

Carpenter on The method by which they in government calculate unemployment has very little to do with the real number of able bodied or able minded men and women actually not working at jobs while simultaneously not in retirement from a lifetime of working, wealthy enough not to need the pay check, or in a partnership (relationship) where one or more of the partners works and the other(s) have alternative responsibilities such as in a family. I have read that the unemployment numbers will fall as we wind through 2012 not because more jobs are taken by Americans but because of the games Washington plays with the statistics. This is no time to relax our efforts to inform other Americans our freedoms are about to be stolen by the Marxists in Washington.

California is the worst.....Probably. !.. But I doubt it. ! ...because its all over.......Have to say....this has been going on a long time....Don't know what the answer is......maybe just DON'T MAKE IT SO EASY.........the same with WELFARE......don't make it so easy.......BUT YOU KNOW THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE LIBERALS HAVE IN MIND, TO TAKE OVER...ALL...and it seem s to me IT'S WORKING......!!!!!!!!!

The administration has been busy cooking the books, defining the workforce down, and increasing the number of "discouraged workers" that no longer count. So far, the result is a U3 number of 8.6% (November), and a U6 number of 16.1 % per the "official" statistics. Gallup says that, by traditional measurement methods, U3 is 11 % and U6 plus part time is 23%.
Permalink Reply by Gene Swank on I have been a diesel truck mechanic for 43 years, untill 2 years ago I had never been out of work for more then 2 weeks. I am now unemployed again, here in Anchorage there is no work, I have applied for other jobs to no avail because they know that if I find a mechanics job I will be gone. I currently only get $208 a week which does not cover my bills. In a couple more months I will either have to stop paying my bills or be homeless. Which will destroy my credit. If I dont pay my rent it will also put my 82 year old mother homeless also. I have gone through the phone book and called every trucking company and repair shop, no one is hiring!!!! Alaska does not go by your weekly wage they go by what you made the previous year and as I only worked 5 months last year I get screwed on the unemployment. Alaska pays out the least for unemployement even though the cost of living is one of the highest in the country. Obumer needs to go now, not in 2012, If they would let us drill there would be tons of work here in Alaska.
