Most city governments are dominated by liberals. Unfortunately, conservatives have ceded big cities to liberals.
What has been the result?
Among other things, the difference in the way Tea Party groups and the Occupy anarchists have been treated.
From Fox News:
Tea Party groups across the nation are accusing local and state governments of a double standard – charging them fees to hold rallies in public parks, while allowing Occupy protesters to set up camp for free.
“I find it extremely frustrating and upsetting,” said Colleen Owens, a spokesperson for the Richmond Tea Party. “It is definitely a slap in the face.”
Owens is demanding a refund of about $10,000 from the city of Richmond, claiming her group was charged for rallies at Kanawha Plaza but the Occupy protesters have not been charged.
“We’ve had to pay for the police, the sanitation, we had to pay for emergency personnel, and we event had to buy a $1 million liability policy,” Owens told Fox News.
She said it was unfair that the protesters have been allowed to essentially break the law by setting up camp in the city park.
“We’re trying to show this is unfair and biased treatment by the mayor and the city council,” she said. “Either force the occupiers to follow the law that’s on the books or evict them.”
And what if the city doesn’t administer the law equally?
“If they are not going to apply the law equally, then they should refund our money,” she said. “They’ve been camped out there for almost two weeks and they have not paid one dime. They are not being held accountable to follow the law, yet we were expected to follow the law.”
Reports have come in across the country about how differently the groups have been treated. Tea Party groups pulled permits, obtained insurance and followed the rules. In some instances, Tea Party groups were harassed about minor rules. Now, in many large cities, rules have been ignored and Occupy groups have been allowed to violate curfew laws, sanitation laws, laws concerning drug sales and public sex acts.
Finally even some liberals are tired of the Occupiers and in Atlanta and Oakland, parks have been cleared. Later tonight, police in Nashville may be called into clear Legislative Plaza, where an Occupy group has squatted without permits for three weeks.
The Occupy movement is dying. In the next few weeks, it will fade away. But a lot of citizens have questions why the two groups have been treated differently.
Fox News and a few other outlets will ask the question, but don’t expect local governments to answer.

Permalink Reply by Thomas on October 28, 2011 at 5:39am The primary political divide in the nation is now between those who depend on governments and those upon whom governments must be able to depend if the governments and the nation are to survive. All fall down, go boom! Our two worse than worthless left wing statist political parties have made The United States federal government into an unaffordable pathetically worthless kleptoparasitic institution that grows and spreads like a kudzu patch--or perhaps like a slime mold.
We, The People, need to take OUR Constitution to someplace like Topeka, leaving the mess that exists to contaminate the banks of the Potomac, and start over with the kind of Constitution defined and limited--and affordable--centrist, real-world government that was designed for the nation when The Constitution was written and adapted.

Permalink Reply by Nancy on October 27, 2011 at 8:06pm I like to see other Tea Party groups across the country follow the Richmond TP's lead--even if they don't recoup their $$$--it's still making the point--double standards for certain!
As for city governments being dominated by Libs (and turning their city into a disaster zone)--look no further than Cleveland, OH--Dem corruption/destruction in all it's glory--it's disgusting!
