Yesterday in the Hill a Tea Party leader was quoted as saying,  “nothing is sacred, and everything should be evaluated and cut as much as it can be.” Does the Tea Party really want to see the defense budget cuts?

Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots was quoted in an article in The Hill. One thing is certain after 2 1/2 years of this movement no one speaks for this movement.  I do not; however, Jenny Martin and the leadership of Tea Party Patriots believe they do.  They are wrong, and so is her call for defense budget cuts.

Since Obama became president, every budget he has proposed has included only one area where he wanted spending cuts. Defense spending. For Obama, the only part of defense spending he likes is Air Force One.

Obama is in the process of doing what his hero Jimmy Carter did. In the 1970s Jimmy Carter created a hollowed out military. The military lacked basic equipment. Aircraft could not fly because they lacked parts. Ships could not leave port because they needed maintenance. Morale in the military plummeted. But then again that's what Carter and the hard left wanted.

Fast-forward to 2011. Cutting the defense budget is near and dear to the heart of every liberal.

Defense cuts have gotten so bad that now even liberal Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warns against cutting the defense budget any further.

The federal government does a lot of things it should not be involved in. However, there is one very specific duty given to the federal government in the Constitution. That is to provide for the common defense.

While our founding fathers could not have conceived of our current military, they would no doubt be appalled at those who want to cut defense spending so that money can be redirected to programs that help get politicians reelected.

Is there waste in the Defense Department budget?

Of course.  It is, after all, a government agency.

Recently two Navy ships were hauled away to be scrapped.   They were built 20 years ago, never completed, and never used. These ships cost hundreds of millions of dollars. That was hundreds of millions of dollars wasted.

No one likes waste in any government department. However, the Defense Department is the only government agency ever targeted for budget reductions in the name of reducing waste. According to the Government Accounting Office, other programs, including social programs, waste hundreds of billions of dollars a year. No one is suggesting reducing those programs in order to help eliminate waste in government.

I want to know why not?

There is waste in the Defense Department budget. That waste should be discovered and rooted out. However, any savings from the reduction of waste, should go back into the Defense Department budget for weapons, parts and other tools our soldiers need.

We live in a dangerous world. We need a strong military to protect us. We are 70 years past World War II. During World War II, we had time to build up our military. The modern era will allow no such luxury. When you are talking about military strength, you cannot play catch up. Either you stay ahead, or you fall behind.

Newsflash: We have enemies in this world. These enemies would love to see this country destroyed. Our military exists not to give Obama photo opportunities, but to protect America.  Either you have a strong military, or you have the military not worth having.

Obama and the Party of Treason are following the blueprint of European Socialists. In Britain, for example, when social programs run over their budget, the defense budget is cut. At one time, Britain was the greatest military force in the world. Today they have cut their military so much they cannot even defend the Thames River without American help.

The military budget has been reduced well beyond any reasonable point, and any new cuts in the Defense Department budget are now simply reckless.

Many in the Tea Party movement believe that defense is the one area where the budget should not be cut. The Tea Party movement certainly does not speak with one voice on this issue.

And anyone who calls for cutting the Defense budget does not speak for me.

First of all, any imbecile who decides to drop his sword in a room full of enemies deserves anything he (or she, Jenny) gets. My government has precisely THREE legitimate responsibilities. 1) To provide for the national defense. 2) to print and value my currency and 3) to legislate WITHIN THE BOUNDS of the original intent of MY Constitution. Peripherally, it should provide for necessary infrastucture (roads, etc...) As far as the stinkin' chi-coms go, I don't want my defense budget dictated by or limited by the expenditures of MY ENEMIES. Cut the WELFARE programs COMPLETELY, get government OUT OF MY BUSINESS and America will do what America does best. I'm more than ready to blow out this politically correct, feminized canary cage and return to the precepts and principles that built this country in the first place. If that "offends" someone, GOOD! Wake the hell up!

Is it just me, or is there a lot of liberal/socialist types starting to hang out here?

@Libertyrising, you are completely naive as most liberals are. Switzerland isn't invaded or threatened because they are tiny little country that produces clocks, chocolate, and men with suspenders blowing rams horns. I've been there, I know.

Carter decimated our military thinking the same as you and Obama and we got the ayatollah Khomeini and the start of the Islamic Radical revolution.

As for Israel Being a Terrorist state...if so why are rockets landing in Israeli neighborhoods every day? and the demonstrations that are going on right now are peaceful?

Compare that with the rest of the middle East, Syria where thousands have already died, and England, a (now) socialist state.

Get real...

How about other countries REIMBURSING our country for keeping them safe from themselves and maintaining peace/freedom in their own country.  Yes, the founders put the Federal Government in place to protect us from foreign invaders.  There is NO DOUBT in my mind that there are countries AND foreign individuals who want to destroy this great country.

No idiot in the House or the Senate has even suggested cutting real cost:

Cut CZAR's and their staff - and you Congress do your damned job instead.  That will be a big savings.

Cut Department of Education - You have successfully funded for over 40 Years a program that teaches you to be a Communist.  We are not a communist nation.  Get rid of the head of the snake in Billions returned to the budget.  Turn over to the states their responsibilities.

Cut Department of Env. Protection.  This is costing jobs and revenue.  Just this cut alone could balance the budget in the long term.

And, read Peter Espositio's statement.  We probably overspend in Defense and do not defend one damned thing.

We should be defending our borders.  Let the Mosque in Europe and Mid East crumble.  They are not our responsibility to defend from rot and elements.  Let god handle the rebuilding of them if he wants to.

In a SUMMERY, the Entire Congress has to get off their dead A$$'s and do their jobs.

Listen to the Freshmen who have read the book and understand what is to be done.

Maybe we should put all the Freshmen in Charge and relegate the seniors to just light discussion groups of ald age and complacency.

I have to disagree with your premise. If we get the hell out of the Middle East, out of Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc then we'll have the funds available to cut the Defense budget, *along with* the various entitlement programs. Why do we need the capacity to police the entire world? That is not the vision left to us by our founding fathers. It shouldn't be ours. Iraq was not worth one American life - it still isn't. So lets get out of there, get out of Europe, bring our people home, and CUT THE BUDGET EVERYWHERE! It's one thing to, as the Libs are doing, declare unilateral cuts to the Defense budget with no plan to extend those cuts everywhere else. Its another to *reflexively* refuse any cuts to the Defense budget.

Don't believe the spins. Iraq is already a failure - from all angles and measurement. Currently our presence and $$$ are what the Shiite gov't doesn't want to lose. If you describe all the turmoil, chaos,  persecutions, civil wars, and lack of basic needs [electricity, sanitation, and water] "stabilied", how would you describe "destabilized"? A million people have been killed and 1MM others have fled the country. What a victory.

Wait and see. The Shiite-run gov't is and will be an enemy, will establish Sharia Law, and cause furthert destabilization.

No, this is not what we need to go after.  Can we find waste or fraud in the defense budget, I'm sure there is some, but our security and our military is not who needs to take the hit...bottomline it is the SPENDING & the BORROWING.  There are many things we can cut including entitlelments.
Our socalled SECURITY will not be affected one little bit by stopping the illegal, unConstitutional wars, closing a bunch of unnecessary bases, making some huge cuts in personnel in DOD and the Pentagon and getting rid of the flagrant fraud and waste at the DOD.  We can maintain a well trained, well equipped fighting force that we can rapidly deploy from a few well positioned bases without maintaining a presence in 130 countries.  When you talk about cutting "entitlements", you need to leave out SS and Medicare.  These are good programs that support our elderly population which they worked their enitre lives to pay into and support.  Just because you are not retired and trying to live off of these insufficint programs doesnt mean you have any moral right to insist on cutting any funds.  There is more than enough waste in government that can be trimmed without taking away peoples retirement funds.  These should be the "sacred cows" not the military.  As far programs like food stamps, housing and Medicaid, there is much fraud that can be cut with the illegal problem being on the top of the list.
There are 2 rallies planned on 9-17-11.
The Leftist group's is scheduled:
9-17-11 "Day of Rage" Planned for Washington D.C., 50 State Capitols, and Wall Street!

A peaceful rally is also planned for 9-17-11 in Washington DC -- "Assault on Washington" (call for civil disobedience to remove Democrat and Republican leaders).

If you cut out waste and fruad, that would bring the price to about 1/2.  Yet no one in either party is interested.

Cutting out waste and fraud would cost votes and jobs, so it better to look the other way and do nothing.  Where does we stand?  Do you care about 300 billion in waste and fraud or not?  Do we care that companies screw the government out of 300 billions dollars of taxpayers dollars?  Why is this not an important issue?  Why does no one care?

Wrong. There large wasteful expenditures in the annual defense budget, but they're not even close to 50% of the defense budget You can't cut the defense budget by 50% nor by $300 bn per year just by eliminating wasteful expenditures. I know, because I've been collecting detailed data about US defense spending, analyzing it, compiling it, and processing it into succint stories for many years. I've even written a book on the subject. It's available at:

Barry:

We all care. But I believe most of us feel that we cast votes that are unheard. Some r call'n for a civil war to throw out the bums in D.C. Others believe we can and should rebuild our govt., take it back peacefully and dont let it get out of control again. is that possible? i'm not an anarchist and hope we'll be able to find a leader that we can all get behind and pull off a switch-a-roo in D.C. Thats why i'm here today. Cause i do care. I'm sure thats why we're all here arguing amongst ourselves, debate'n and chewing the fat. We could be watch'n a ballgame. So don't think no one cares, bud. You're not alone.
