I’ve been disappointed in John Boehner. I have been angry with John Boehner. Now, I’m just laughing at him because he has become a total joke. Like Homer Simpson, he should stand up and go “D’oh!”
What was Boehner’s “D’oh!” moment?
Boehner just had his “D’oh” movement yesterday. For anyone not familiar with the iconic “The Simpsons” show, Homer is the bumbling father on the show who regularly either injures himself or does something stupid. Those actions are always accompanied with his trademark expression, “D’oh!”
For the last two weeks, the Federal Aviation Administration has been shut down. The House of Representatives and the Senate could not agree on an authorization bill to keep the FAA going.
The sticking point was the issue of $16.5 million in subsidies to thirteen small airports. Some of these airports were in states with Democratic Senators, such as Nevada and West Virginia. All of these airports are within 90 miles of a large major airport.
Boehner and the House GOP refused to go along with the funding for these airports, as it is pork. The Chief Thief of the Party of Treason, Harry Reid refused to agree to a new bill unless that money was in there.
So a stalemate ensued and the FAA shut down. Essential workers, such as air traffic controllers and aircraft safety inspectors remained on the job. The FAA could not provide for funding for airport construction projects, so those were shut down. As pointed out yesterday on TPN, there is a question as to why the FAA is handling those construction projects and not the local airports but that is a different story.
With the FAA shut down, the government was not collecting about $30 million a day in taxes, which was the bright spot in this stalemate. And though the GOP did not push this talking point, here was a government agency shut down and the American people did not even notice.
But then John Boehner had his “D’oh!” moment. Yesterday he agreed to a compromise. Remember, when you are John Boehner, compromise is the goal, so surrender is always the first option.
Boehner sent through the House a bill for the FAA authorization that strips out the subsidies for those small airports. A victory, right? Just as the voice on those late night TV commercials says, but wait, there’s more! Included in the bill the House passed and will now pass the Senate, is a provision that says if the Secretary of Transportation decides it is “necessary” those subsidies will continue.
D’oh!
Harry Reid took to the airwaves immediately said the bill had been held “hostage.” Being held hostage is the new Democrat talking point. I think my new talking point is going to be, “Harry Reid, Chief Thief of the Party of Treason.” It has a better ring to it.
The America public, with the help of the drive by media, and Republicans are going to be asking the question, why did we have this shut down? John Boehner stirred this up for two weeks, and then did what he does best. He surrendered. The media is going to message it this way and they should because that is an accurate description of what happened. Because of John Boehner, at least 80,000 people were temporarily furloughed. Presumably the 4,000 of them that are FAA employees will get back pay but the over 70,000 who were working on other contracts probably will not. Those are a lot of people to star in Democratic commercials.
While the FAA impasse went on and the construction projects were idled, the government still had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for expensive construction equipment that could not be used.
At the end of the day, what does the GOP have to show for this fight? Nothing. The pork they decided to fight against, albeit a rather small amount considering the size of the government, will still be there. They picked a fight and John Boehner surrendered again.
D’oh!

Permalink Reply by Barry Gabrielson on August 5, 2011 at 10:35am Did anyone see the jobs report today? 117K added job is made up. Do you notice that the jobs added are part time summer jobs paying minimum wage. These individuals dont pay taxes so this does not help the economy. The few full time jobs are also at minimum wage, again dont pay taxes. Did you also notice that this does not take into account the people who lost their employment, the 99 weekers that are now off the books, nor does it take into account the new layoffs 64K announced this week. The real number is negative. This administration will cover-up the real numbers, same with the press.
They will state that the economy is getting better, which is a lie.

Permalink Reply by Barry Gabrielson on August 5, 2011 at 11:00am The Government is filled with screw up. The more incompetent you are, the higher you rise to Management.
Since there is no need to be profitable and control waste, why not. No one cares. Waste and Fraud in Government is a daily occurance. Again, why not, no one cares to stop or prevent it. Any subordinate who attempts this gets terminated. Government encourages Waste and Budget to pad next years budgets. No one audits, no one controls budgets, no one cares.

Permalink Reply by paul erickson on August 5, 2011 at 12:29pm John B is the poster boy for 'representative' that does not represent.
He is the speaker of the house of misrepresentation!
He is poster boy for ALL who forget who put them there and why!
Who put him there? The People.
Why was he put there? To REPRESENT US.
I can't go and negotiate my best interestPERSONALLY, so I help elect someone to represent me. Whoever wins the election now represents the ONES WHO PUT him/her there.
They do NOT represent the LOSERS of the election.
But John B can't seem to keep the focus - so:
I END UP WITH NO REPRESENTATIVE!
What else can I do but seek a different representer who WILL REPRESENT the citizens who put em there!

Compromise and Tolerance of a narcissistic Communist fraud, wanting to destroy our nation is unacceptable.
Permalink Reply by Barry Gabrielson on August 5, 2011 at 1:52pm People dont realize that Cave Man and the Progressive Party are friends. Its like two lawyers with clients who go after each other in court, put on a great side show. When the trial is over, they both go out to dinner and party it up. Each one made a ton of money on their client, so both lawyers won. This is the same with Cave Man, McClown, Obummer, Piglisi and Runt Reid. They all won, have money money in the pot to send on special interests. Remember, cuts equal lost elections, increases with more money to special interests groups equal more votes equal a greater chance to be elected or reelected.
Dont we all understand the game here? They both wanted to increase the debt for a bigger pot of money to spend on their needs. Remember, this is not their money, this is taxpayers money that they can play with. If this was their money, taken out of their pockets, they both would not agree to 2.4T increase to the debt. Both parties can pass this extra cost to the next Congressperson or President. Today, both parties will live it up, one big party on taxpayers dollars. Royalty needs more dollars to waste on themselves.
Has anyone asked for an budget for this 2.4T dollars, where every dollar is being spent? We have witnessed hundred of billions of waste in the 14.5T debt. How much waste is there in this 2.4T. Im guessing 40%. Anyone have a better guess? After all, its our money being wasted for their pleasure.
