Even though the party conventions have not even happened yet, the speculation in Washington all surrounds the fall election and whether Obama can be reelected.
Many of the pundits think the race will come down to Florida as it did in 2000. There may be another state that could seal this race and it could really hurt one of the candidates.
Which state is it and what is happening that could cripple one of the candidates?
The state that could decide this election is not Florida, but it is Virginia. Virginia has been traditionally a red state but in 2008, it went for Obama. Many political experts believe that Romney cannot win the election without winning Virginia.
In a head to head match up, right now Obama leads Romney 50-42%. We are still four months out from the election so a lot of things can happen.
One of the big things that could happen is Virgil Goode.
Virgil Goode is a party hopping former Congressman from Virginia. Goode went to Congress as a Democrat in 1996. He eventually became an independent, then a Republican. He was defeated for reelection in 2008.
Now he is running for President under the banner of the Constitution Party.
When Goode is added into the mix, the polling changes radically. Obama’s lead expands to 49-35% over Romney.
Goode is currently trying to get on the ballot in Virginia, which is not easy. If you doubt that, ask Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain.
To a lesser extent, Romney is having the same problem in New Mexico, where former Republican now Libertarian Gary Johnson is pulling voters that might ordinarily go to Romney.
Many Republicans in Washington are quite worried because Goode has until August 24th to get 10,000 signatures in. Goode has a significant advantage since Virginia is his home state and you can bet your last dollar that the Obama campaign is figuring a way to get money to Goode to make sure he gets on the ballot in Virginia.
The Republican Party should be worried.
While Romney managed to outspend everyone else so he could win the nomination, the GOP is about to nominate a candidate who is fundamentally out of step with most of America and the overwhelming majority of Republicans.
Mitt Romney is not only a liberal he makes no serious effort to reach out to conservatives. He and the Republican establishment simply assume that conservatives will vote for Romney because our mantra is anybody but Obama.
Most conservatives agree with that. However, there are some conservatives who are being split off.
Those who support Virgil Goode or Gary Johnson are simply providing a vote for Obama. Unfortunately the Republicans are dead set on nominating the one guy who could manage to lose to Obama.
This should be the year of a conservative landslide. In the year that could establish the Republican Party as the dominant party for twenty years, the GOP has simply defaulted back to an establishment hack who cannot win.

Stupid is as stupid does, even though they may deserve Obama, America cannot afford another Obama.
It is one thing for frustrated voters today to tell a pollster that they might vote for somebody else like Goode or Johnson. Once we get down to the wire, however, voters are likely to make better choices - at least if the Romney campaign makes a serious effort in Virginia, as one must assume they will do since Obama will spend a ton of money and lots of time there. Yes, Goode may hurt Romney, and even a small vote for him could be decisive in a close election. If Romney is smart, however, he will attack Goode early and often or get his Super PAC to do the dirty work - as effectively as he attacked Gingrich, Santorum, Perry, Cain, etc. in the primary. He needs to blow him out of the water now, rather than ignore him..

Permalink Reply by Doug Nicholson on July 12, 2012 at 1:34pm According to Hannity, the pollsters are intentionally "oversampling" democrats by 8 points.
Permalink Reply by LeRoy Graw on July 12, 2012 at 12:07pm Judson, you have to get behind Romney or YOU will be a factor for an Obama reelection!!!!
Permalink Reply by VAPatriot on July 12, 2012 at 12:15pm LeRoy, you are so right. Judson, you need to stop promoting the idea of a 3rd candidate. Surely, you must be aware that you are simply guaranteeing an Obama reelection by splitting the vote. What are you thinking?
Permalink Reply by Cynthia Hamilton on July 12, 2012 at 1:41pm I really question your assumption that Romney will be better for the country than Obama. Since either one would be a disaster, it's better to have the disaster under the true liberal than under the phony conservative. The liberals ALWAYS use it to blame conservativism when the failure is LACK of true conservativism, which, lets face it, is what happened with Bush! Look how far it got them in that case!
Permalink Reply by Let Freedom Ring on July 12, 2012 at 4:24pm Wonderful, Cynthia. Go ahead and vote for that criminal, dictator wanna be, obama. If he is re-elected, it will probubly be the last vote you will cast. Obama will do everything possible to make sure there will never be another election in America, and apart from all out civil war, he may succeed.
Romney may be a bad choice, but these idiots that give their votes to a candidate that has no earthly chance to win simply because it's the conservative thing to do, could be sending America down the road to suicide. I am tired of that criminal Obama, and the likes of Holder, dictating their warped, insane values on America.
Permalink Reply by Cynthia Hamilton on July 12, 2012 at 5:39pm You're not listening to what I'm saying. I hate Obama as much as you do! He is killing our country! My point is that Romney is NOT any better. He holds his finger in the wind and does whatever he needs to do to acquire and maintain political office. He does not govern by principles. Which makes him even worse, because he is masquerading as a conservative and when he fails us people will think Conservativism fails.
Just tell me this: what the hell good does it do to elect someone with an R after their name if they behave like a liberal?
To answer your question i suggest you listen to the Mark Levin Show he tells you why and what we must do after we get Romney elected. go to http://www.marklevinshow.com/sectional.asp?id=32930 download and listen to the last 5 or 6 audios.
I agree Romney is bad but we have to pull together to elect him and get as many conservitives in both the Senate & House to hold his feet to the fire on repealing obamacare and reverse all other vile things that this Administration has done! Please go to Mark Levin and send this out to all others...
Permalink Reply by MaryJo Morse on July 12, 2012 at 6:43pm Right on JD Crow and I do listen at times to Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, etc...... Methodically make a wise decision and not just vote for the person because he/she is a Republican......Do the research on those Republicans who are running for office whether it be for Congress or Senate that they are true conservatives. See how those conservatives have voted and what bills if any they opposed and why....All Conservatives around the nation need to vote Republican if we are seriously going to defeat the Obamacare laws......We saw first hand how working across the aisle worked "NOT".......
Permalink Reply by Cynthia Hamilton on July 12, 2012 at 9:13pm ok...kind of reminds me of a woman who settles for a guy thinking she can change him after they get married...and electing a RINO with the idea we can change him or somehow work with him has NOT worked in the past--rather has caused damage to conservativism--but I am very open to reading what Mark Levin has to say about it because I really respect him, so I will definitely do that.
