Earlier this evening the Drudge Report broke the news that the Romney campaign may announce their VP candidate early and Condoleezza Rice; the former Bush Secretary of State is a surprise front-runner.
What does all of this mean?
It means my head may actually explode.
The Romney team sent out a teasing email tonight saying they would have some exciting news they wanted to share. The left wing media, like the Washington Post want Romney to announce early.
And now the Romney team thinks Condoleezza Rice is a good choice.
First, the Washington Post does not have the Romney’s campaign’s best interest at heart. The Post has not endorsed a Republican since Abraham Lincoln and even that is subject to historical dispute.
Second, does the Romney campaign really want to win? The Romney strategy in the primaries was to outspend all of his opponents and blitz the airwaves with negative advertising.
Most VP’s are announced 24 to 48 hours in advance of the convention. Why? To create media buzz. If Romney announces his VP weeks in advance he is going to be just a giant buzz kill. Does anyone remember what Sarah Palin did for John McCain?
Can you imagine anything worse than not only picking Condoleezza Rice but making the announcement two or three weeks in front of the convention? That will make the convention a total snore.
Who thinks Condoleezza Rice is a good choice? The liberal Republican establishment does. Of course they thought John McCain and Bob Dole were good choices too.
Peggy “I’ll endorse Obama 2008” Noonan thinks nominating Condoleezza Rice is a “brilliant move.” Yes, that would be just as brilliant as her endorsement of Obama in 2008.
Rice will kill the base and will also drive independents far away from Romney. Is the Romney plan to try and lose?
The social conservatives will not come out for her, like they did for Palin, because Rice is pro-abortion. Social conservatives don’t really believe Romney when he claims he is pro-life, but to add a pro-abortion VP would really sink him with the social conservatives.
Rice is a consigliore of the Bush family. She worked for both of the Bushes. She is associated very closely with the Iraq war, which in case anyone has forgotten is one of the main reasons why the Republicans lost the House and Senate in 2006.
We do not need anyone else named Bush leading the Republican Party and we don’t need one of the Bush team players as a part of the future of the GOP.
Condi Rice is a RINO establishment Republican. She is as clueless about the middle class as Romney is.
Fortunately, Rice is just a trial balloon. Hopefully it is one that will be quickly shot down.
And what happens if Romney picks her to be his VP nominee? Then we had better figure out how we are going to survive four more years of Barack Obama.
Larry even though this only my second post it does not mean that I haven't reading what has been posted ny you and the other members for the two years that I have been a member. Yes we do say things in the heat of the moment that is why I don't ordinarily here or other sites.
I think you miss the point, Virgil. Speaking for myself, like you, there's no way I would vote for anyone but the Republican nominee, even if it was Bozo! I think the point is that those who actually do believe as you think many us do -- " if my guy loses the primary I'll be damned if I vote for yours!" -- won't be wooed away from that thinking with a weak player. The stronger, the more conservative Romney's VP pick, the less he runs the risk of people thinking that.
Romney's playing the old, losing RINO formula of being all things to all people by playing what he deems to be "The Middle". What these calculators don't understand is that there is no "middle". It's a stupid metaphor and nothing else. There are only those who are not yet convinced by anyone. Weak people don't convince people of anything. Strong presences do that. Then add to that the fact which the writer points out that she's a Bush marionette. She wanted to be the NFL commissioner. Get her over there! She would be a terrible pick for Romney (and us).
Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse...RINO paradise. At least McCain had Palin.
The answer is NO, NO NO NO - No to Condi, Rubio, Jindall, Haley, the last three they are NOT eligible. Condi I like her but when the Establishment Pushes, or says they are great forget it. I am a Christian and Social policies are important to me and I do not believe in Abortion. I don't believe in others who are not Natural Born. He better make the right choice. I am sick of hearing how we have Rock Stars, no we don't. We have Men and Women who are Servants for a short time and they are gone. I put no one on a pedestal.
Romney would do best to Pick a Conservative, true one, Like Allen West. I dont' see it being Rick Santorum, because how can Rick say he backs Romney with all he said?
It is good to know some of us still have our eyes open. Watch out for the wool planket - it will be thrown again and again.
vote your faith gain a nation , vote your money rule as a slave.
The site is very slow today. I waded through three pages and see no mention of the real reason Romney is thinking of Rice.
Biden is going to retire for health reasons before their convention. Hilliary will be put in for VP.
If Romney picks Rice before the Democrats do their switcheroo, he steals most of their thunder.
Plus, there are more black votes in the swing states than Latino.
As to rebelling against Rice, if the pros think that's what it will take to get Obama out, so be it. They have lots more computers reckoning the puzzel out than we do.
Coni does play the piano real good.
great she can play at the eulogy for the United States of America.
I would rather vote Ron Paul any way , this current crop is rotten.
Ezekiel voting Ron Paul will re-elect BH Obama.
It really looks like you are playing an OBOZO game with us.
