CPAC is starting tomorrow and guess who is coming out at CPAC? It is GOProud, the gay GOP group.
GOProud is a disturbing group. First, they are not conservative. Second they are trying to speak for both the conservative movement and the Tea Party movement. Immediately after the election last year, GOProud, along with a couple of minor members of Tea Party Patriots came out with a massive pronouncement about what the new GOP majority in the House should do. This missive of theirs was written as if they spoke for the Tea Party movement.
Recently Tim Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor and long shot Presidential candidate came out against the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Chris Barron, Chairman of GOProud called Pawlenty out of touch with rank and file conservatives.
Really?
GOProud, which is not now, nor has ever been a conservative or a Tea Party group, publicly joined CPAC as a sponsor. A lot of conservatives left. World Net Daily is boycotting CPAC. Heritage is not going to be there. Concerned Women for America, the Family Research Council, the Center for Military Readiness and Liberty Counsel are all passing on CPAC. A lot of conservative groups are telling CPAC no.
Is GOProud a Republican group? Sure. Anyone can be a Republican. The GOP has a big tent that runs from the far right to the left. Just because you are a Republican does not make you a conservative.
A wise man once said when all of your friends are telling you that you are wrong and all of your enemies are telling you that you are right, you are wrong.
Conservatives are telling CPAC you are wrong in letting this group be a major player at CPAC. It is not a conservative group and even more disturbing is GOProud’s desire to try to speak as if it is a leader of movements it is not even a part of.
Conservatives are bound by certain principles. They define us. A political party is not defined by those principles. A political party simply exists to get candidates elected.
CPAC is the granddaddy of all of the conservative gatherings. It got its start when conservatives were wandering in the wilderness. Unfortunately, as conservatism has become big business, CPAC has been taken over and now is being run by those who are not necessarily conservative.
We conservatives have the right to say who is a part of this movement and who is not. We also have the right to say who speaks for this movement and who does not. GOProud is not a part of this movement and does not speak for this movement. Those who organize CPAC should be careful. If they keep moving in the direction they are going, they may not be a part of this movement in the future either.

I read your posts and for the moment I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not a knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing, bigoted Liberal Troll. Just for the moment though.
Your assumption that the TEA Party is just about our Core Values leads me to believe you're uninformed, as many outside the Conservative ranks are, or you are looking to antagonize. Anyone with a first grade education understands that Conservatives are much more than just a triad of Core Values. Our social, moral, cultural and spiritual beliefs are well known to most of the world. I recommend you either read up on them or find a Conservative and talk to them.
The TEA Party is the classic melting pot that we all love to cherish. We have all walks of life, races, creeds and colors. Despite the slander the Liberal Progressives want to spew we know who we are, and we know what this great country needs. When Judson presents his posts we discuss them. Some may agree, some may not. We do it intelligently and without the vitriol common to Liberals.
So Rade, you can either learn about Conservatism or go raid some other site, we don't permit denouncements without defending ourselves. We are the TEA Party and we are proud of what we stand for.
Permalink Reply by Judson Phillips on February 12, 2011 at 6:53pm Usa, you do a disservice to the Tea party by calling people names when they disagree with you. From reading the comments to Judsons post I've seen many here who just discount any disagreement as someone who is "liberal" or a troll.I'm not saying that can't happen because it does but I have to say that most liberal trolls don't usually have any kind of coherant argument and usually they aren't as tactful as some of the supposed "trolls" here.
I've been with the tea party movement since it started.I've participated in 3 different groups locally and a few of the national groups as well. Most groups do have the fiscal issues as thier core issue. It is a general issue that can bring MANY people together.

I understand what you and Rade are saying. However as a Reagan Conservative I will never compromise my beliefs to impress someone to join the pack. Our Core Values are the foundation of the TEA Party movement, but I refuse to believe that in order for those Values to succeed we can ignore our social, moral, cultural and spiritual beliefs.
We are in a much bigger fight than our 3 Core Values can solve. Without being aware of what is happening in our "ranks", such as CPAC, and addressing them we are corrupting our Conservative values. When I see CPAC allowing the ACLU and GOProud to attend the conference my antenna's go up immediately. I fear CPAC is leaning much further to the Libertarian side as it is. I am a Fiscal Libertarian and I agree with many other issues Libertarian but I am a Conservative first and foremost.
When Indiana's Governor Mitch Daniels, the new darling of CPAC, claims he will put a "truce" on social issues, I cringe. How far have we let our social issues decay already? Too far in my opinion. If we can't find a true Conservative candidate that can multi-task policy and issues, we're doomed.

You are the one that posted this article on TPN, therefore, the onus is on you to prove that they are not a conservative group. Your article falls into the logically fallacious traps of ad nauseam and burden of proof. If this article was truly worth anyone's time, you would list the GOProud mission statement and principles they have on their website and list each and every principle with which TPN disagrees.
I'm pretty sure that there's only one topic that causes a disagreement between the two conservative groups. How many topics does a group have to be on the "right" side for TPN to consider them conservative? 50 percent of the topics? 75 percent? 90 percent? 99? 100? And what gives TPN the right to be the sole judicial voice on who's conservative and who is not?
Here are some other conservative groups. Can you let everyone know if they have your blessing since you are the highest powered arbiter on such topics?
Libertarians
Neoconservatives
Paeloconservatives
Traditionalists
Heritage Foundation
Cato Institute
American Conservative Union
Citizens United
The Conservative Caucus
Liberty Central
Americans for Prosperity
Please let us all know which groups are "okay" to join.

Permalink Reply by Alan Kovin on February 10, 2011 at 6:06am GOProud is a group of homosexuals. As such, they have no place in an organization which stands for family values. Many conservatives feel that if they approve of letting GOProud join CPAC, they will be condoning a lifestyle they consider sinful. Let GOPrould stay within their own organization.
