This has just come in; Rick Perry will not be on the ballot in Virginia, joining Michele Bachman, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman as candidates who did not qualify.
From The Washington Post:
Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry failed to submit enough valid signatures to qualify for the Virginia primary ballot, state GOP officials said Friday evening.
Perry’s campaign told state election officials it had submitted 11,911 signatures, but a Republican source familiar with the situation said that the Texas governor did not submit the required 10,000.
Earlier Friday, the Republican Party of Virginia certified former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) to appear on the March ballot.
Four candidates — Romney, Perry, Paul and former House speaker Newt Gingrich — turned in thousands of signatures by the deadline Thursday.
State party officials are spending Friday certifying the signatures. They have not examined Gingrich’s signatures yet, but expected to do so by late Friday night. His campaign said it submitted 11,050 signatures.
For Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum, not qualifying for Virginia was simply a sign of the end of their campaigns. It will be a shock for any of them to still be in contention after Iowa.
Gingrich and Perry needed to qualify for Virginia. Failing to qualify would be devastating. The loss of Virginia is not as bad for Perry as it could be for Gingrich. Perry has massive fundraising that can keep him in the race.
We should have word on Gingrich later tonight.
Unbelievable,
I know I signed that list 40 times and he could not find a few more to sign, Not I'm just kidding that was Newts list I was signing. Ok I'm still kidding, but I could probably make a little Christmas money signing those list. Do you really think they would be checking the list if it was a democrap? They have really turned our election system into a third world elections. God help us all. Good luck

Permalink Reply by Darlene Black on December 23, 2011 at 8:00pm Perry and Gingrich both have well over the 10,000 signatures needed why would he not be on the ballot? All 4 had the needed signatures to be on the ballot

Permalink Reply by JC Patriot on December 23, 2011 at 8:15pm You're suspicious that conservative candidates can't seem to get enough support despite the fact that more Americans identify themselves as conservative than liberal? I'm sure the moron-in-chief and his reverse-racist pal in the justice dept. will look into it. We can all rest assured they will get the job done ... too bad it's just not the job we want them to do.
Permalink Reply by Judson Phillips on December 23, 2011 at 8:19pm Virginia has the toughest ballot qualifications of any state. You have to be well organized to get on the ballot. I was afraid Gingrich would not make it.
Permalink Reply by JC Patriot on December 23, 2011 at 8:37pm "Well-organized" sounds like one of those things that should be a "good thing," but to some of us it sounds like a good way to keep the upstart tea-partiers in their place, and keep the rino's in office. I would hate to be waiting on some kind of count or recount to qualify if I were one of those turning in signatures.
This two-party stranglehold we have needs to be addressed someday soon. Imagine that there would be roadblocks for an American citizen to run for public office. The founders must be so proud ... not.
You and me both! I don't trust anything, Kari. Just remember that billion dollars goes a long way for pay off!
I'm at the point that any numbers whether it's the economy or voting, is a big lie. This is what this regime reduced us to!
