Breaking News: It is over. Santorum suspending campaign. Romney has won.

Rick Santorum is suspending his presidential campaign, in effect making Mitt Romney the Republican Presidential Nominee.

From the AP:

A Republican close to the campaign says the former Pennsylvania senator was to make the announcement Tuesday in his home state of Pennsylvania, two weeks before the GOP presidential primary there. Santorum faced a tough fight in his home state against Romney.

Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich are technically still in the race, but Santorum’s withdrawal effectively ends the race.

For the Tea Party and conservatives, we have a lot to think about.

This should have been the year of the Tea Party Presidential candidate.   We should have been able to offer the American people a clear choice between Obama’s vision for failed socialism and the end of America and the bright, shinning, city on a hill that is America.  We could have offered them the hope of a great future.

Now, to get Obama out of office, we have to support a Republican who is only slightly less liberal than Obama.  At least he is a natural born citizen and not an anti-American Marxist.

Romney is a soulless technocrat.  To him, everything is a problem to be solved.

The passion of patriotism and conviction do not enter into those equations.  Romney is a big government, statist Republican.  He also made it a point to win the nomination without conservatives and the Tea Party.

For conservatives, our future now lies with trying to put conservatives in control of not only the Senate but the House as well.

Romney now needs to reach out to conservatives, not go left as a lot of his advisors are going to tell him to.  This election is a referendum on Obama.  With unemployment at record levels and gas prices causing major economic damage, Obama is very vulnerable.  But surveys on Tea Party Nation show that one quarter of Tea Party supporters will not vote for Romney in the general election.

If a quarter of Romney’s base stays home, he can forget about beating Barack Obama.   While few in the conservative movement believe Romney is anything near being a conservative, now is the time for him to try and prove us wrong.

For the Republicans, the conservatives are not happy.    The GOP had better reach out to the Tea Party and the Conservative Movement to make certain that we are included in the future or there maybe a future without conservatives in the Republican Party.

If conservatives leave the GOP, the GOP will go the way of the Whig Party.

This election is not over!  In the Texas primary I will for for NEWT.

In the general election I will vote Libertarian.

I am ready for another four years of Obama!  Better than a RHINO.

He will gut the country and maybe yes I say MAYBEE after the fall we can rebuild!

IF NOT, T WAS A GOOD RUN!  1776 to 2012

Really????? And what makes you think you could ever rebuild this nation once it falls?  Now I've heard everything!

Did the Roman Empire or the Greek Empire ever rose from the ashes? Go, and study history, before you make such a ridiculous comment.

Let Romney know how you feel/what you think:

Walter  Don't threaten like that!

the GOP is voting for the destruction of America.  They want the NWO...  and that is against America.  Romney is for that!

so what is the deal with newts website?

bradley ...only a donation page is up?

Judson...as a lifetime member of the RNC...conservatives have already left the GOP...the GOP kicked them to the curb.  As I get calls for money from various groups of the RNC, I tell them they get no more from me.  I send my donations to the candidates of MY choosing.  And from what I hear, the RNC is at minimum $4 million in debt...doesn't sound like much when compared to the national debt BUT it means their base has left the ship.

You're absolutely correct that the conservative grassroots movement failed in producing a "tea party" candidate...but we didn't start off with one, and thus didn't have one we could all get behind.  They were all Republicans with differing levels of "moderatism."  Heavens, you experienced the fractions that developed just here on TPN...how in the world could we have coalesced in support of one of these choices?

If we are serious about restoring our country (notice, not saving...we've already lost it to the elected dictator, bonehead/communistic congress and nullified SCOTUS), we MUST develop a viable/credible party to challenge both the Democrats and Republicans...NOT replace them.  I vote for the American Party, and in order to be a member you MUST agree to support and defend the US Constitution against ALL ENEMIES, foreign and domestic!

Debbie - "MUST agree to support and defend the US Constitution against ALL ENEMIES, foreign and domestic!" is and always has been the oath of office & of military service. What's it got us?

We've gotten what we deserve...we NEVER held anyone in Congress accountable...we just go from one traitor to another.

As a veteran who took that oath numerous times over 28 years, I still live by it.  It doesn't have an expiration date on it.

Problem is, too many Americans are just happy and content to live their lives as if there's nothing wrong.  We already live as slaves to government in tyranny.

By the way...hope people are preparing for hard times ahead...be ready to take care of yourselves and family, and be willing to protect them against the seriously perilous times ahead.

Called COMPLACENCY - or the Denial Syndrome -- did in the Jews in Germany - we are next in line if we don't kick ourselves in the butt and OBummer out of the White House - ASAP!!

Santorum was never an appropriate tea party candidate.  He is a progressive statist who happens to be pro life and hates gays.  His fiscal and other cultural votes were with the liberals.  He voted 6 times to fund the National Endowment for the Arts, NPR, Public Televisio, etc., etc.  He was NO conservative.  In true progressive fashion, he opposed tort reform.  Good riddance.  He really should be a Democrat.  He fits there much better.
