Claire McCaskill should be playing the lottery this week. No politician should be as lucky as she has been. Not only did she get the weak candidate that she wanted to run again, now he has managed to self destruct.
Todd Akin is being told by everyone from Sean Hannity to Reince Prebius to step down. He won’t.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus appeared on CNN's Out Front on Monday evening and spoke to Erin Burnett about the controversial statements made by Rep. Todd Akins, Missouri Republican, regarding rape. He called for Mr. Akin, who is running for Senate against Democrat Claire McCaskill, to "step aside and let someone else run for that office." Chairman Priebus also said that he "prefer that Todd Akin do the right thing for our party and our candidates" and "not come" to the upcoming RNC Convention in Tampa.
Not only are Party leaders telling Akin he needs to drop out, the money people are now pulling their support.

Republican officials and activists pressured Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin to quit Monday and cut off millions of dollars slated for his campaign, worried that his comments about abortion and “legitimate rape” could ruin the GOP’s chances of controlling the Senate. The top tier of the party’s establishment — presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, Senate Republican leaders and wealthy GOP campaign groups — all sought to sway Akin. The party’s campaign arm in the Senate and Karl Rove’s prominent “super PAC” pulled their money from the race, which had been widely considered the GOP’s best chance to defeat an incumbent Democrat, Sen. Claire McCaskill, this fall.
The Republican National Senatorial Committee announced that if Akin stays in, they will not contribute $5 million to the Missouri campaign.
How the hell does Akin expect to win?
He has no support from the Party. His idiotic remark is going to be repeatedly blasted all over the Missouri airwaves by the left and he is going to have exactly no money to counter it.
This is simply a case of a politician’s ego.
Akin needs to do what is right for the Party and for America. He isn’t going to like it but this is one time where he has committed political suicide. He can ride this thing all the way out and be a pariah to the party and possibly cost Republicans control of the Senate or he can step out.
If he steps out, he can do political rehab and come back at a later date.
When all of your allies are telling you the same thing, the odds are pretty good they are giving you excellent advice. All of the Republicans are telling Akin the same thing.
Drop out now.

But if you've sunk a lot of your own money into a campaign...it would be hard to just turn tail and run for one bad gaff... I mean look at Biden...he's a laugh a day. Are we too weak to forgive and forget this one really huge mistake? Is there more that we need to know? Is there a truly better candidate in the wings? If so, why were we with this "loser" in the first place?

Senator Stabenow has failed American families, seniors and the next generation with her record as a member of the Senate Budget Committee. She has done nothing but follow Harry Reid's lead, resulting in incomprehensible debt and the country going without a budget for more than 1,200 days. I passed several balanced budgets in 1990's and they led to historic economic growth.
The national debt has increased by more than $6 trillion since Debbie began serving on the Senate Budget Committee and has already risen by another trillion dollars this fiscal year. As a member of the House Budget Committee, I helped balance the budget for the first time in 30 years and did so for four consecutive years.
The debt is a serious issue facing the country and the contrasts before Michigan voters could not be clearer. I know it's taxpayer's hard-earned money the government spends, and Congress has a moral responsibility to balance the budget for the next generation. Sen. Stabenow believes it's the government's money, it's limitless and there are no economic consequences for trillion dollar deficits.
I have the record of making the tough decisions to get the job done for Michigan families and workers.

Permalink Reply by david chaney on Maybe the voters will think they actually found an honest Politician and vote him in. With all the lying and deception in the campaigns and the media, a little honesty is actually refreshing. A politican who says what he actually believes, instead of what's politically correct, has it's appeal. What's important is keeping what he said in context and not letting the media distort it. Taking things out of context is something the media on both sides are doing. Abortion won't be made illegal, so his position won't change anything. Meanwhile, important issues, like reducing Government deficits, while growing the economy, go undiscussed in the campaigns and the media. There's a serious loss of confidence in the ruling elite and the folks in Washington, and the more they try to hide things up, the worse it looks. The leadership on both sides needs to be explaining how they are going to reduce the trade deficit, so they can reduce the budget deficit. Making issues out of poorly worded statements or political incorrectness instead of dealing with the real issues is doing a great disservice to the country.
