Arizona Congressman Gabrielle Giffords was shot and killed along with several others in Arizona.  Giffords was conducting a “Congress on your corner” event when the shooting occurred.   Six others were killed as well.

The shooter has been taken into custody and let’s hope he gets the death penalty he richly deserves.

Congressman Giffords was a liberal, but that does not matter now.  No one should be the victim of violence because of their political beliefs and certainly a member of Congress should not be shot and killed on a street corner.

Take a moment to say a prayer for her and her family, as well as the others who were so tragically murdered this afternoon.

At a time like this, it is terrible that we do have to think about politics, but no matter what the shooter’s motivations where, the left is going to blame this on the Tea Party Movement. Already on liberal websites, the far left is trying to accuse the Tea Party of being involved.

While we need to take a moment to extend our sympathies to the families of those who died, we cannot allow the hard left to do what it tried to do in 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing.

Within the entire political spectrum, there are extremists, both on the left and the right.  Violence of this nature should be decried by everyone and not used for political gain.

UPDATE:  At the time this was  written, all the major news outlets were reporting Congressman Giffords had died.   As of 3:10 CST, Doctors are now saying they are optimistic she will recover.   As tragic as this situation is, I think we can all be happy that the Congressman survived this terrorist attack.

YES!  There is more here than meets the eye.

And it's Liberals  There is more to this event than just the shooting. AND I AM LOOKING BE ON THE EVENT

Tea party will disappear when the constitution is obeyed, Congress is held accountable for corruption, Politicians are reminded of the oath to protect and SERVE and do it, and Obama is impeached for treason. Americans have the right to assemble peacefully and demonstrate. Tea Party is as legal as the NAACP and Acorn, La Raza and ACLU!!!

God Bless Sarah Palin, America and her constitution.

RESPONSE TO SHOOTING STAGED

Bill,
This has all been staged just a little too perfectly.  Almost immediately, the sheriff, the media, even the woman who helped tackle Loughner began the parotting -- right wing, hatred, racist, bigot, vitriol, calls for violence, etc.  And notice what Obama did NOT say this time?  He did NOT say, "let's not rush to judgement....we don't have all the facts".  THIS time the shooter is white, not black, not muslim.  THIS time the blame was immediately NOT to a minority or muslim.

While the media's been playing up the Palin map, NOT ONE WORD has been said of this map the dems put out:

We're to believe bulls eye targets are NOT the equivalent of cross hairs.  NOT ONE WORD has been said by the left wing media that the shooter HATED cops, was AGAINST God, AGAINST religion, and all FOR illicit drugs.  NONE of those are traits belonging to ANY conservative I know.

Shooting prompts legislation to protect lawmakers, officials
mug.preston CNN Senior Political Editor Mark Preston

Washington (CNN) - Rep. Robert Brady, D-Pennsylvania, said he will introduce legislation making it a federal crime for a person to use language or symbols that could be perceived as threatening or inciting violence against a Member of Congress or federal official.

Brady's decision to offer the legislation comes less than 24 hours after a gunman attempted to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona, in a shooting that claimed the lives of a federal judge, and a nine year-old girl, among others.

"The president is a federal official," Brady said in a telephone interview with CNN. "You can't do it to him; you should not be able to do it to a congressman, senator or federal judge.

"This is not a wake up call, this is major alarms going off," he said.

Brady is particularly incensed over a web posting by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin during the 2010 election in which she targeted 20 House Democrats, including Giffords for political defeat. The posting showed a map of the United States with the 20 Democratic congressional districts identified by gun sights.

"You can't put bulls eyes or crosshairs on a United States congressman or a federal official," Brady said. "I understand this web site that had it on there is no longer in existence. Someone is feeling a little guilty."

But a Palin aide Saturday denied the web posting from the 2010 congressional campaign was designed to incite violence. Rebecca Mansour told conservative host Tammy Bruce that it was a political tool and noted it should have been removed after the November election.

Brady said he is hearing that the spouses of some of his congressional colleagues, specifically the newly elected members, are terrified and questioning whether they should remain in Congress. Upon hearing the news of the shooting Saturday, some spouses attending a freshman retreat in West Virginia, were "taking their children out of the daycare," Brady said he was told.

"The spouses are in an uproar," he said. "They are panicking."

Brady said it is now time to put an end to the hyper-charged language.

"The rhetoric is just ramped up so negatively, so high, that we have got to shut this down," Brady said, noting that "I've had my share of death threats" over his many years in politics.

Brady said he has not spoken to his House colleagues about the bill or a senator who might offer similar legislation. But Brady noted that he hoped to have it ready as soon as possible.

Brady stressed he is not "pointing at any particular party" noting that there is Democratic rhetoric and actions at times that he thinks is out of bounds. "You can disagree without being disagreeable," he said.

As for support for the bill, Brady said, "Why would you be against it?"
