And you wonder what is wrong with American schools
American students do poorly on standardized tests for math and science when you compare them to students in Europe and Asia.
Why is that?
American kids are not stupid. Far from it. American kids are some of the brightest in the world.
Could the problem be the teachers and the education system? An incident out of North Carolina points out what could be a problem.

A YouTube video uploaded on Monday afternoon apparently shows a schoolteacher from the Rowan-Salisbury school district in North Carolina informing a student that failing to be respectful of President Obama is a criminal offense. Breitbart News has uncovered that the student is a high school junior, and that the teacher is apparently one Tanya Dixon-Neely.
The video shows a classroom discussion about the Washington Post hit piece about Mitt Romney bullying a kid some five decades ago. One student says, “Didn’t Obama bully someone though?” The teacher says: “Not to my knowledge.” The student then cites the fact that Obama, in Dreams from My Father, admits to shoving a little girl. “Stop, no, because there is no comparison,” screams the teacher. Romney is “running for president. Obama is the president.”
The student responds that both are “just men.”
The teacher yells -- literally yells -- that Obama is “due the respect that every other president is due … Listen,” she continues, “let me tell you something, you will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom.” She yells over the student repeatedly, and yells at him that it's disrespect for him to even debate about Romney and Obama.
The student says that he can say what he wants.
“Not about him, you won’t,” says the teacher.
The teacher then tells the student – wrongly – that it is a criminal offense to say bad things about a president. “Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush? Do you realize you are not supposed to slander the president?”
The student says that it would violate First Amendment rights to jail someone for such sentiments. “You would have to say some pretty f’d up crap about him to be arrested,” says the student. “They cannot take away your right to have your opinion … They can’t take that away unless you threaten the president.”
Clearly this teacher would prefer to be back in her favorite county, the old Soviet Union.
This is the problem. We have so many teachers who are far left wing nuts who are more interested in political indoctrination than they are in teaching. America has been throwing money at the education system for seventy years.
All we have to show for it are teachers’ unions, massive educational bureaucracies and test scores that get worse every year. In many cities, while the unions enjoy lucrative contracts that protect even the worst teacher from being fired, the graduation rate plummets to 50%.
This teacher? Not only was she not fired, according to press reports; she is still on the job.
It is safe to say, anything those kids learn is in spite of her, not because of her.

The teacher in question sounds like a racist. She has been indoctrinated by the Department of Edcuation and she has a live time postion because she is a member of a dictatoral union. Needless to say both the DofE and the union are unconstitutional. As for the young man in question - HOORAW he is military material - a true red blooded AMERICAN.

Reminds me of the FCAT test results here in Florida. The students did extremely bad on the writing portion. The teachers union basically said the test was unfair. No it isn't unfair, it just showed that the teachers can't teach the kids the proper way to write. Their solution for the problem? Get tougher on the written portion of the test? No. Get the teachers to really teach the kids better writing skills? No. Make the test easier? Yes. So just dumb down the test and when the kids get into the real world, they'll fail at anything having to do with writing. We just keep throwing money at education, but get nothing in return.

Yes it was unfair! I have no children in the school system at this time, but what I read of the topic of the writing was obscure and not familar to a student in Florida. Also were problems with writing portion of the tests in other areas of the country. One I heard about asked these kids to tell a secret and why it was hard to keep. This is a problem from the standards point, but the teachers are getting lazier by the year. The reason we have such poor scores IMO is the fact that a teacher in a union is protected even when they are lousy. Internet classes and home schooling would be a boon to our students. Think of the money saved if Moms were the main teachers like long ago. Not only government savings, but each citizen would save in taxes and all the way down the line. That silly freak in that video could take a job making beds and emptying trash cans at the hotel.

Victoria: LOL!! The writing portion of the FCAT asked 4th graders (9 year olds) to write about what it might feel like to ride a camel. The teachers of the failing students complained that the average 9 year old in Florida would not know what a camel is, so therefore could not write about what it might feel like to ride one. What BS!!! Any 9 year old who does not know what a camel is, is illiterate!!
Until we get the teachers' unions out of the schools, we will never, ever see any positive changes. Parents, keep your children OUT of government schools!!
P.S. Kudos to the kid who recorded his Leftist Beeyotch "teacher" in the classroom in North Carolina. I would encourage all students stuck with Leftist indoctrinators in public schools to do the same thing, and send the tapes to Breitbart, Beck, and Hannity. America needs to wake up and see that this is happening EVERYWHERE.

I never considered myself a racist either, but if they keep this crap up I am rapidly becoming one. I don't agree with the way Mr. Obama is taking our country! I don't mind saying so. I have the right to do so. Thanks to a lot of military veterans who fought and died so I could have that right. Thank you God for the opportunity to live in a country that lets us have freedoms like this.
