What is the difference between the Republican Party and the insurgent Tea Party movement?
The Republican Party still wants to play the inside game and still wants to get along with the players in DC. The Tea Party wants to win.
The Republican Party and the Romney Campaign has a great chance to show some courage and leadership. What is that chance and why is it so important?
In just a little over a month, unless something totally unprecedented happens, Mitt Romney will be nominated to be the Republican nominee. Even as the preparations for the Republican Convention are going on, something else is being prepared.
It is the Presidential Debates.
Presidential debates are a tradition in American politics. Since 1988, the Commission on Presidential Debates has controlled them.
The problem with the commission is former Chairs of the Republican and Democrat Parties chair it. They are all interested in inside Washington relationships.
The problem is the Republicans are willing to walk into the debate at a significant disadvantage.
The Republicans are always willing to let liberal journalists moderate the debates. At best they will get neutral hosts. At worst, they get partisan hacks. In 2008, far left wing reporter Jim Lehrer of PBS hosted the first debate. Liberal Tom Brokaw, formerly of NBC News hosted the second and liberal Bob Schieffer of CBS hosted the third. Liberal PBS host Gwen Ifill hosted the Vice Presidential Debate.
In 2004, it was the same story. This time it was Lehrer, Schieffer and Ifill again plus Charles Gibson of ABC news. Again, all liberals.
The test for the Republicans this year is will they stand up and demand conservative hosts?
The Democrats are going to be trying every method, legal or otherwise to win this election, so why aren’t the Republicans going to at least try for a level playing field?
Here is a suggestion for the Republicans and for the Romney campaign. Demand conservative hosts. How about a debate hosted by Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity? If they really wanted to be wild, how about Michael Savage as a host?
There are dozens of good conservatives who could be hosts.
So why aren’t the Republicans and the Romney Campaign standing up for themselves?
Perhaps they are. Unfortunately if history is any indication, that probably is not happening.
One of the things that the establishment Republicans do not understand is we in the Tea Party want to fight. We are tired of the Washington games. We are tired of the Republican game of just getting along.
We want to fight and we want to win.
We have watched the inside the beltway games and seen our national debt soar to levels that threaten our national security. We have watched politicians who are more interested in building their little Capitol Hill empires than they are in fighting for America.
Two weeks ago, Romney was having a horrible week. Last week was much better for him. Why? We conservatives are not flocking to the Mitt Romney fan club but at least he spent last week fighting.
The message for Romney is simple.
Fight. We do not want a leader who is interested in playing nice. We want a General Patton.
We the People have a simple message for the Republicans.
FIGHT.

Permalink Reply by Grace Kirby on July 26, 2012 at 7:58am I pray that the Romney campaign managers will pay attention to this message. Yes, we conservatives are tired of the same old games. IT IS TIME TO FIGHT! Romney, CAN YOU HEAR US NOW?
Permalink Reply by MUG on July 26, 2012 at 10:23am It's not a game anymore, it's war!
Romney campaigns like a wannabe Hockey player who still has all his teeth. It isn’t about winning it’s about appearance, about how he plays the game by the rules. Obama campaigns to win. He doesn’t care if he plays by the rules or if you know he doesn’t play by the rules.
Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. Vince Lombardi
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score? Vince Lombardi
Permalink Reply by James Schmidlin on July 26, 2012 at 10:14pm Well I am sure neither look at this site. It is up to us to call the republican leadership and tell them our selfs. Also, call Romney's campaign headquarters in Mass and let them know we want a fighting spirit. Do not settle for all liberal debate moderators and to demand at least a solid conservative moderator at every debate. Call them please. I have already. Also, tell them to take the offensive position and do not let up. It can be done and with a positive forward thinking agenda for the future. Do not get caught up in details of the plan just keep pounding the principles of conservatism, constitutionalism, and liberty and contrast that with everything BO has done which is the exact opposite.
This is a real problem and they should make every effort to make it a fair debate but that will be impossible knowing Obamas track record. He will be the one legged dog in the corner yelping as Romney talks about all his failures. What a joke and they continue to allow this fraud to destroy everything he touches. He wants gun control now yet he is responsible for Fast and furious. To hear him say things like they need justice when he scarfs at the mother of the border patrol agent makes me sick. He is the most dividing president ever in American History.
Permalink Reply by Dr. Arthur W. Carpenter on July 26, 2012 at 8:20am I saw Romney's speech at the VFW Tuesday, and yes he was fighting back, calling out Obama by name. I was very pleased to have him as a presidential candidate at that moment. Since I don't watch tv ever, this was a rare chance. Maybe his focus groups can figure out that this is the approach that inspires, the in your face Romney. He said something to the effect that "if you want an America who's power in the world is in decline, you have him now, keep him...but that he would do every thing he could to reverse the trend." I put it in quotes but those were not his exact words, only my memory of them. Bottom line?? He sounded very Presidential and worth fighting for.

Permalink Reply by Katie Kalpin on July 26, 2012 at 8:32am I was just on the GOP's head's Facebook page informing him how we "NEED SPINES, Not more white flag waving Republicans." I was letting him know how much we need Newt. If we are going to save this nation we need guy's and Gal's in there that have a huge back bone. People like, Newt, West, Bachmann and Palin. (I just went with two men and two women there, there are more lol) We have to let them know that we are not allowing GAMES to be played any more. We need to give them hell until they wake up. Or we need to start another party and bring all the REAL Conservatives over to us. We can't afford the games any more, this nation will NOT survive.

Permalink Reply by Lawrence Brown on July 26, 2012 at 8:32am The American people have to realize that both parties are against conservative values. Tea party has made big gains but we still need to elect top conservative in leadership roles. Both parties spin the truth to fit their own agendas. We can demand ask politely or scream, but they don't listen very well. just like people did not listen to Obama when he made his speeches about tearing down America. We have big problem folks. It looks like republicans are sitting back and when country falls to pieces they can blame everything on opposition.
