It is time for a Tea Party Agenda.  This is an agenda that we can point to and say if you elect Tea Party Congressmen and Senators, this is what we are going to work on.

This agenda is based on ideas from Tea Party activists across the nation.  The idea behind the agenda is simple.  We decided that the best course would be to pick out a small number of goals that everyone would agree on.   We kept in mind that the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party does not control the leadership, so the parts of the Tea Party Agenda would have to have overwhelming support.

  1. Passing a Federal Government Realignment and Closure Commission bill.  This will create a commission similar to the Base Realignment and Closure Commission that was created in the 90’s to downsize the military.   The Commission will be charged to go through all non-defense spending (Since BRAC has done this for the Defense Department).  They will look for programs that are riddled with fraud and waste, are duplicates of other programs, programs that have failed or have simply outlived their usefulness.  Once the Commission makes its recommendations for elimination, the recommendations would be presented to Congress for an up or down vote.  No amendments would be permitted in this process so that no Congressman or Senator could protect a pet project.  Once passed, the bill would go to the President for signature or veto.
  2. No budget/No Pay.    It is very simple.  If Congress cannot pass a budget, they should not be paid.  This is somewhat of a symbolic gesture, however every Senator and Congressman should be required to explain why they couldn’t come up with a budget.  It has been 1118 days since the Senate passed a budget.  Almost every American household keeps a budget.   Every business must keep a budget or it does not keep its doors open.
  3. Commit to pass a massive drill here, drill now plan to open up America’s vast energy resources so they can be used today.  The specific goal will be to remove every obstacle that keeps America from being energy self-sufficient and to have the price of a gallon of gas be $1 on January 1, 2015.  This will be a massive stimulus to the economy if we can do this.
  4. Repeal the current income tax system and replace it with 9-9-9.  9-9-9 is not a perfect system but it is a viable idea.  The current tax system is broken.  It benefits accountants and tax lawyers and anyone with enough influence to buy a tax exemption from Congress.   The tax code is so confusing, even the IRS does not understand it.  We should simple make April 15th just another day on the calendar.
  5. Require that every bill Congress considers be a stand-alone bill.   That means every bill congress considers should cover only one topic.   There should be no more 2700 page bills that no one wants to read or even has the time to read.  This is a reform that will cost no money, could slow down Congress’ spending habits and will stop them from saying they did not have a chance to read the bill or Pelosi from telling America, a bill must be passed to see what is in it.

This is a simple agenda that can be passed.  That is the idea.  This should be an agenda we can take to the American people and ask our Tea Party Senators, Congressmen and candidates to embrace.

It will not solve all of our problems, but it will be a start.

I would like to see a bill or amendment that requires Congress to explain where in the Constitution does it grant them the power to do whatever they are voting on allows them to do. I like the other points.

The US House pass such. My understanding is that the rule, unfortunately, is not written well enough and most Representatives (Rs and Ds) are simply citing the "necessary and proper" clause as opposed to a specifically enumerated power.http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jun/12/constitution-101/#....

Hey Judson--

like what I saw, but regarding the budget, members of Congress not only shouldn't be paid if they can't pass one, they should be fined a week's pay for every day they don't pass one.  Ideally, this would be retroactive for the Senate at least, to 1118 days ago, but that would be considered ex post facto, which is of course, unconstitutional.

Thoughts?

Bill

I am behind this 10000% :) We can do this! A start is a start, from there when we are successful we can move on to something bigger, as we do well in these other areas as well...just keep going until we have the USA back on track! :) We can do this. People have already seen what liberalism causes and they have seen what Obama has done and they are not happy. Like I have said before, I have gay neighbors that have loaded their yard with obama 2012 signs (YELK I had to look at that.) lol They are no longer behind him saying that it is disgusting to them that he used them for election reasons only and they are now voting for Romney. (Not that Romney was our best choice but whatever.)  They have said that most gay's are now for Romney! So we are already ahead of the axis of evil!! :D We can do this American Patriots...We have God on our side and we have the Founders looking out for us. Let's make them all proud!! :D

And I agree with you.  We can do this,

Dump the 9 9 9 tax issue and replace it with the Fair Tax and I'm with you. 9-9-9 does nothing but create a new tax that very soon will be 30-30-30.

Fair Tax will eliminate the IRS!

Fair Tax will eliminate the majority of fraud in tax filing including the current rash of taxpayers filing returns and find out somebody stole their indentity and already filed!

Fair Tax will include the underground economy such as cash businesses, prostitution, and drug dealers into the taxpaying mix!

I never did understand the advantage of 9-9-9 but would gladly agree to a plan that would untangle our present mess of laws. If I could get a sense of the Fair Tax and/or the Flat Tax either one might work.

All I could understand of 999 was a "reshuffling of a deck of cards" and dealing the "Same BS to us" !

Sim,

FairTax.org will answer any questions you may have about it. Herman Cain says adopting 9-9-9 will simplify the current tax code for the time being and provide time to educate the public about the FairTax, which is the ultimate goal and which would require a Constitutional Amendment to do away with the 16th Amendment.

James, I agree that the FT is the very best way to go; I have been actively championing it myself since 2004 but it appears there are a number of people that don't understand why 999 should be passed first. The FT requires Constitutional change-it will take quite a bit of time to get this done but in the mean time 999 only requires an act of Congress and can be done, essentially, over night since the IRS will not be eliminated. Will the government try to raise it higher-yes! Has the government tried to raise our current tax rate-YES-and has done it many time over and over but here's the difference. Under our current code, we the people, have virtually no say in the matter and what little say we do have has to wait till an election. Under 999, 2 of the 3 9s are under our direct control and these are the federal sales tax and the corporate tax, as we all know is really just another indirect tax on the people on retail goods. So, we can choose to stop purchasing items and the revenue to the Fed government goes way down till they comply with what we consumers are willing to pay-kinda like with the gas prices. This is very much in line with the FT. Remember, 999 also does away with payroll just like the FT does. Support the 999 stepping stone, James. We all are in this together.

I personally have several issues with the fair tax approach and would consider it as viable if: 1) no taxes on basic groceries, 2) no taxes on services that encourage savings & investments activity, 3) remove the existing taxes on fuel, tires, automotive & machine batteries, 4) a basis rate of 2.5% as anything higher simply increases the costs of ALL goods and services and these WILL be passed directly to the consumer and added to existing state sales taxes could elevate even the most basic needs to something of a dream to obtain.

IMHO - the "fair tax" would drive an even larger black market for everything.

Here is something I have heard and would have no major issues with, a simple flat rate tax on ALL income without regards to "how" much you actually make, this would include ALL corporations - again without ANY "breaks" but based solely on income. Yes, reporting would still be required, but restructured to a reporting agency only - NO -legal basis for ANY enforcement activity at all.
