A letter to Mitch McConnell

 

Dear Mitch,

 

I am trying to find a way to say this that is both polite and perhaps a little subtle.  Unfortunately, people tell me I am neither polite nor subtle, so I’ll be blunt.

 

“Grow a pair.”

 

You have had quite a transition.  You have gone from being the minority leader, where the Democrats had a filibuster proof majority, to being almost equal.  You can also count the numbers and look at 2012.  You know that in 2012, the Republicans will gain a majority in the Senate.  It is almost a mathematical certainty.  And you will be majority leader.

 

Not so fast.

 

Remember, you were a part of the problem that led to the Democrats getting sixty seats in the Senate to begin with.

 

First, you can start by imposing party discipline.   The days of reaching across the aisle are over.  You have forty-six senators.  (At the time of this writing, Washington State is still too close to call, but I do not believe Dino Rossi can get a fraud proof majority).  Lisa Murkowski will also caucus with the GOP.  They are also looking towards 2012 and they can count numbers just as well as you can. Many of them have been in the majority before and know how much better it is in the majority.  Many of them are looking forward to being committee chairs.  They need to understand, if they want to be chairs, they are going to follow orders.

 

There will be no more independent actions to resurrect liberal bills, such as Tennessee’s “Bail out” Bob Corker did, when he went to Christopher Dodd and single handedly brought back to life the horrible Financial Reform bill that had died.

 

The filibuster is now going to be our friend.  The GOP is going to filibuster early and filibuster often.  The good news is, with control of the House, we will not have to worry about killing a lot of bad spending bills.   However, there are certain things that do fall exclusively to the purview of the Senate. 

 

First, no more radical judges.  I do not care if another Federal judge is not approved until 2013.  This is not a bad thing.  No more bad treaties.  The list of bad treaties that Obama wants us to sign is quite long.  Just say no.

 

To paraphrase Gordon Gekko, “Gridlock is good.”

 

Many years ago, an old Tennessee legislator was running for reelection.  A young voter got up in his face and said, “I’m not voting for you.  You didn’t get a single bill passed this year.”

 

The old Legislator looked at the young man for a moment, and then said.  “You are right.  But I killed twenty bad bills.  I think I did my job.”

 

Your job, kill the bad bills of the Obama regime.  If you do, in 2012, we will see a sea of red, all across the country, as we did Tuesday night.  You will be the majority leader in the Senate.

 

On the other hand, if you do not, we in the Tea Party will remember.    2010 was our first election.  We did not do everything right, but one thing I will say for our movement, we learn quickly.   If you want to be the majority leader after 2012, I suggest you do the same.

So you are a NeoCon? Defense starts and ends on US soil. America is a Republic, not an empire. America First is the real conservative tradition.Tell me you don't post on FreeRepublic?
True, America is not an empire. Which means that the US military is defending the country rather than the "empire" RP claims America maintains.

America NEEDS a strong defense. This means a defense budget no smaller than the current one.

You were wrong to claim that "Defense starts and ends on US soil." America was isolating itself before 7th Dec 1941, and how well did it fare? Japan attacked PH, Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy declared war on the US. Oceans can no longer protect the US. Hiding behind oceans is no longer a feasible foreign policy. America needs to defend itself against its enemies. This means that some American troops must be stationed abroad, and sometimes, the US must send its troopers to distant battlefields.
When writing or voting on a bill... two things: does it take away more freedom, and does it spend more money. If you can answer yes to either question, the answer is NO! There are so many reasons to start impeachment hearings against this traitor, but eligibility for office is a great place to start! Obamacare, bail outs, etc. Bipartisanship? Give me a break! We tried that. We have a lot of work to do, and the majority of Americans are Conservative! We are tired of watching the less than 20% wacko liberals running everything! The media isn't going to be your friend no matter what! They will pretend, but they are always going to stab you in the back. The conservatives are smart. We know the mainstream media are Marxists! It's 11.59 pm for this great country. It's time to quit f**king around! January 2011 is our last stand... if we can't do it now, we are done. I want you to go down in history for saving America!

I find the idea of Ron Paul being speaker is appealing.....we need to turn the page, reclaim our lost values and not recycle the same GOP material with new "packing". The GOP should demand allegience and stomp on the turn-coats and RINOS that have screwed this nation repeatedly. The GOP has been its own worst enemy.....
Right on Jon - We had a great conservative running against Paul this year, but needless to say he didn't make it. We have already started our plans to unseat Paul in 2012. Medina is another one that people need to watch - she is Paul in a skirt!!!!

We are in a war for national identity. The GOP left us paleo-conservatives long ago. If Republicans want a last chance to govern, there needs to be bold leadership that shows the door to RINO and NeoCons.

For the TEA Party to have significance, the fight within the GOP needs to be won. The collectivists are the enemy no matter what their party label.

I am a conservative independent, and I am grateful for the enthusiasm and energy the Tea Party put into the mid-term election. My concern now is that tea partiers may be feeling their oats a little too much. I hope the republicans and tea partiers can form an effective coalition that helps to bring our country back on track, but recent tea party comments including threats and refusing to compromise on anything concern me. I am also concerned about candidates the tea party endorsed for the last election; there does not appear to be a good vetting process. The republicans might have won a few more senate seats if the tea party had not endorsed Christine O'Donnell and Sharon Angle. These candidates should have been vetted and eliminated.

I just hope that the tea party republicans and the other republicans can work together to stop irresponsible spending of the democrats, but when we write threatening letters (like this one to McConnell), state that we will not compromise on anything, and virtually advocate gridlock, I think our success may be short-lived. If tea partiers and republicans in general can't work together to acheive what they preached during the election campaigns, they may be gone after 2012. The American people want results, and I am not sure the attitudes of some tea partiers are conducive to producing positve results.

Yes, the tea partiers deserve a lot of credit, and their efforts to achieve this miraculous turn-around in Washington is greatly appreciated. However, they should not let this success go to their heads and become obstacles to progress. They need to learn how to work within a broken system to achieve their goals, and at the same time, do everything they can to fix the broken system.
Dear Mr Phillips;
While I agree to the idea of informing Senator McConnell that the Tea Party as a group want the Republican Senate to behave on their behalf and promote our message throughout the Senate, your threatening tone does not do you nor the Tea Party organization justice. We know that in the past, the Republicans have behaved in a manner similar to and sometimes worst than the Democrats in Washington. But they have been warned as a result of this past election. What we should promotre is our objectives in the renovation of the Constitutional Principles enumerated by our founders, and we should make specific suggestions of what must be accomplished by the Senate and House and presented to the President for his signature. If we do not play by those rules we will be looked at as another radical organization and will not accomplish the goals we are promoting.

Anyone recall watching the Dodge Challenger tv ad with George Washington and the forces of the Revolution chasing away the Brits in Challengers? Take a look at the expression on old George's face. He doesn't appear to be playing by the existing rules, now does he? In fact, that's kind of the point of the ad.

When playing by the rules doesn't work, change the whole paradigm.
Good going, but..... you didn't remind him of bills that need to be introduced like kill Obama care, secure our borders, stop further TARP bills, an ammendement that excludes members of congress of being exempt from laws passed that cover citizens, stop the VAT tax, stop Obama from taking vacations that we the tax payers are paying for, stop exporting our jobs overseas, stop card check, give more rights to the states. Impeach Obama, quit paying his czars, and make sure our country stays a soverign nation, and does NOT fall under the mandates of the UN. Then there's illegal immigration. If they're not here legally, they should deport them all! End forign ownership of property and business's. If you're not a legal citizen of this country, you shouldn't be allowed to own property or vote. Stop Sharia law. This is our country, and if Muslims (or any other immigrants) want to come here it should be to assimilate into our country and adopt our customs, live by our laws and not try to take us over and force us into their laws or religion.

And send a bill to Obama to pay for his own vacation to the TAJ Mahal!

Protect our rights under the Bill of Rights. ALL of them!

I pray daily for our country , our citizens and for our leaders. May GOD bless us all.
