I am not a big fan of people who are in the entertainment industry. I think most movie stars; singers and other entertainers are generally overpaid narcissists.
However, every now and then one comes along who makes everyone proud.
Marc Anthony is a well-known singer, actor and songwriter. He is also known for being married to Jennifer Lopez.
On Thursday, Marc Anthony was enjoying himself in Las Vegas when he spotted two United States Marines. Marc Anthony went up to them, introduced himself and in honor of Veterans Day, which was still a few hours away; he took the two Marines with him and showed them the party of a lifetime.
Marc Anthony took the Marines to the exclusive Tao Night Club, bought them expensive booze and made certain that everyone at the club knew the Marines were not only with him but they were the guests of honor that night.
Those two Marines certainly have a memory to last a lifetime but there is more to this story.
Hundreds of people we call superstars were out on Thursday evening. Many in the Hollywood set were out partying and enjoying the benefits of liberty and freedom that America provides. Those Marines and others like them make huge sacrifices to give us the gift of liberty.
The story here is that Marc Anthony is a great guy and did something amazing. The story here is also that we haven’t heard any other stories like this. There may have been a one or two other instances where Hollywood types treated American military personnel like the heroes they are but I doubt it.
I’m not going to sit here and rip those who did not act. Marc Anthony was a real patriot Thursday night. He did not have to honor those Marines the way he did, but he did.
Marc Anthony, you are a great American.

Permalink Reply by Roland C. Cartier Jr on November 12, 2011 at 5:03pm Reagan might not have read the lyrics but he sure didn't act like this Administration has by fork tonguing us to death right? There are quite a few actors getting involved with Veterans as they also have bands that play for them like I had when I served going to the USO gigs.
Permalink Reply by Mike NQR on November 12, 2011 at 5:13pm Always heartening to hear about one or two among the throngs of an ultra-liberal bunch. Hats off to you Marc Anthony. You now have a fan that didn't know anything about you before except your name and your spouse.
Celebrities have the resources available to them to influence a great number of people. Unfortunately, far too many are more concerned with being accepted by their peers and fans than they are with the effects of their actions. They could be compared to a lot of politicians who do whatever they have to do to buy votes.
When ever I hear celebrities express political opinions which I feel are uninformed and/or potentially damaging to our country, I boycott them!!! If more people would boycott them at the box office, concerts, etc. maybe we could make an impact. Remember Opra and the Dixie Chicks!!!
Permalink Reply by dory on November 12, 2011 at 5:22pm My husband and I are in and out of airports monthly. We always seek our military in the coffee/food lines and then offer to pay for their order. It is a small thing, but I know a big thank you is appreciated. If more people did that, just think how viral it could go. If we are in a local restauranr in our hometown, we will offer to pick up their check.
Permalink Reply by Roland C. Cartier Jr on November 12, 2011 at 5:27pm Believe me dory they do appreciate it as do I because it's been a long time since I was serving to hear and receive that kindness. Thank you and you're right it should go viral!
Permalink Reply by Marcia Wood on November 12, 2011 at 5:26pm Way to go for Marc Anthony - what a beautiful story and those 2 marines will tell everyone they meet about Marc and the way he honored them.
Permalink Reply by joana briggs on November 12, 2011 at 6:24pm Good job Marc and thanks for sharing his story. Most of the wonderful stories remain between those who thanked and those who received. the tone of this piece implies he was the only one and many many of us gave thanks in many ways.
Permalink Reply by Virginia Ritter on November 12, 2011 at 6:33pm Lin B. I didn't see anything in this post about the marines getting drunk and it appears the club Marc Anthony took them to was not at all sleezy or sordid...or sorted either! It was a lovely thing for Marc Anthony to do. He went out of his way to honor and show gratitude to two military men on V day. A memory they will surely cherish all of their lives. Why so negative? So...I sure don't agree with you or Irene Aldrich. A little less judgemental maybe...????
Permalink Reply by VernonC on November 12, 2011 at 9:39pm Lovely thing? Are you kidding, there's little lovely about overly loud discordant music with alcohol and drug stupefied individuals grinding it out to overly loud discordant music in near darkness with flashing lights. Lovely thing, indeed!
Permalink Reply by Thomas Kuhn on November 12, 2011 at 6:42pm I sure Brad Pitt took a couple of soldiers out parting Thursday night. Unfortunately they were Venezuelan soldiers.
