Do you want to know how Democrats really feel about elections?  Do you want to know what Democrats really feel about giving the people a voice in the government?

From the Daily Caller:

As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.

North Carolina Republicans immediately scoffed at Perdue’s proposal, pointing out to her that elections hold politicians accountable for their actions.

Cancelling elections they are going to lose is what dictators do.   Bev Perdue’s suggestion that elections be cancelled as more to do with the knowledge that in this next election the Democrats are going to be punished by the American people who reject their socialism.

Perdue’s spokesman has come out now, saying she was only joking.

Here is Perdue’s full statement.  You decide if she was joking.

"You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things. I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. The one good thing about Raleigh is that for so many years we worked across party lines. It's a little bit more contentious now but it's not impossible to try to do what's right in this state. You want people who don't worry about the next election."

Bev Perdue’s statement was not a joke.  It was indefensible.  If she had a shred of decency she would resign immediately.  Of course, she is a liberal so she has no decency.

No elected official should ever suggest we postpone elections in this country.  That is something that is beyond the pale and is the kind of statement that should cost any politician their job.

Governor Perdue, resign immediately.

Don't hold your breath
OMG! I live in NC and this is the first I've heard about this! I am beyond shocked. This woman should be impeached for even (supposedly) "joking" about such a thing. Actually, she should have been impeached in  2009 when she stole some of the proceeds from the NC Education Lottery, which would NEVER have passed into law if the requirement that all proceeds go to education hadn't been included in the bill that was passed.

No I want them to think about why they are gong to be fired, both D and R. In 2012 recycle congress.
Each passing day I learn to despise the demon-rats more and more.
Ya they want to fix things,THERE way not yours.
Exactly! In lib-speak "fix things" means do it their way.
Interesting. Does Tea Party speak for "fix things" mead doing it our way?
no it means the founding fathers way, for me anyway
Yes, we follow the path of the founding father's. There vision made this nation the greatest in the world, we must get BACK on the right path, pun intended :).
