As conservatives now lament the now probable nomination of Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee for President, one question on the minds of conservatives is, did Romney really mean what he said or was he just saying what he thought he needed to say?
Unfortunately, I fear we are about to discover a terrible fact. I fear we are in fact going to discover that Romney simply said what he thought he needed to. Romney has managed to get the nomination basically without the support of the Tea Party movement and without mainstream conservatives.
Romney will not win this fall without the support of conservatives. In a recent survey on Tea Party Nation, a quarter of those surveyed said they would not vote for Romney in the fall election.
The election this fall is going to be close. The Party of Treason will be getting every dead person they can out to vote and in other places people will be voting early and often. Romney may have been able to win the nomination without appealing to the Tea Party and to conservatives, but he had better start to get conservatives in his corner as soon as he can.
How can he do this?
Here is a start. Commit that by January 1, 2014, he will have $1 a gallon gas.
First, let’s start with the basics. Romney himself cannot give us $1 a gallon gas. But he and a Republican Congress can create the environment where it is possible.
Has anyone been paying attention to Obama? Just in case no one has noticed, he is not afraid of anything Rick Santorum has said. He is not afraid of anything Mitt Romney has said. The only thing he has worried about is Newt Gingrich when he started talking about $2.50 a gallon gas.
If anything, Newt was not ambitious enough. Regardless, that was what Obama attacked. Why? Because he knows that is his vulnerability.
People are screaming at $4 a gallon gas right now. What does anyone think will happen when gas hits $5 a gallon.
Not only is this a winning issue for the election, it is a winning policy.
Does anyone remember 2008? Gas prices shot to well over $4 a gallon. Does anyone remember what George W. Bush did? He revoked an executive order prohibiting off shore drilling. That was purely symbolic act, as a law would have to be repealed to allow off shore drilling, but it was enough. Gas prices fell to $1.60 a gallon in some areas by the time George W. Bush left office.
Barack Obama’s first act as President was to reinstate the executive order banning off shore drilling and gas prices have gone up ever since then.
Can you imagine what would happen if we had a President committed to $1 a gallon gas? If he were willing to do what it takes to allow new drilling, new refining and getting the Department of Job Destruction and Poverty Creation, otherwise known as the Environmental Protection Agency out of the way of American energy production?
If we dropped the price of gas down to $1 a gallon, there would be a huge economic stimulus. A staggering drop in the price of gas could help quickly end the Great Obama Depression.
So here is the question for Mitt Romney. Are you a liberal or are you a conservative? Are you willing to prove it? Are you willing to step out with a daring plan that will captivate America and disarm Obama?
That is the question. America waits for your answer Mitt Romney.

Permalink Reply by Juls on April 1, 2012 at 1:42pm Here's another challenge for ol' Mitt - stick to the script and quit ad-libbing. Saying things like, my wife drives two Cadillacs, I've got good friends who are NASCAR owners, or joking about how dear ol' dad shut down the plant in Michigan to move it to Wisconsin, kind of falls flat with the masses you know?
Permalink Reply by Alexia MacReady on April 1, 2012 at 2:38pm I WOULDN'T LIE TO FELLOW CONSERVATIVES (and especially to fellow Newt supporters!)
Romney will do a fine job, he'll keep his promises and he'll do a great job with the economy because he'll want to be reelected in 2016. I kid you, not !!!! And the last 4 years he'll want to go down in history as the President who saved America. I don't think we have much to worry about. Romney's ego won't let him fail.
Permalink Reply by Alexia MacReady on April 1, 2012 at 3:03pm You know, I'm glad Romney's wife has two Cadillacs that HE BOUGHT FOR HER.
He has his own money. He doesn't need to rob us like those welfare hoes we have in the White House now.
They've been vacationing and partying hard on our money for the last 3 years.
Everytime I see the 0bamas on tv, I imagine I hear the song for the Jefferson's...We're Moving On Up.
Permalink Reply by John Mainhart on April 1, 2012 at 2:49pm Sorry, I would not believe him now no matter what he says. If he wins the presidential nomination the presidential race has lost my vote has lost my vote. If he wins the tea party better work hard for Congress and forget about the president.+ I am done doing the bidding of the elitists in the Republican Party If they want to win the Presidency with their hand picked money person then they will have to figure out how to win with out me.
Permalink Reply by Alexia MacReady on April 1, 2012 at 3:21pm If you don't vote for the GOP nominee...then you vote for 0bama. If you vote for 0bama, you're not a conservative.
When are all the babies going to stop throwing temper tantrums and see what they did to us when they didn't vote for McCain.
Infantile characters...that's what all of you 'independents' have who aren't voting for the GOP nominee.
Alexia remembers when 'independents" called Ronald Reagan a liberal or moderate. Dang...I have a great memory.
Democrats win by taking one small victory at a time. Conservatives lose because we have a bunch of "infantile characters" who want the entire victory (their way or no way) now or nothing at all.
We usually get nothing at all. How did that work for us in the last election, huh?

George Washington was given to America as a gift from God. Had he decided to be King we would all be bowing down to 0bama now....
Permalink Reply by Juls on April 1, 2012 at 8:11pm I have a question that I hope you can answer. Why did Patrick Henry have it in for James Madison? I am aware of Henry's attempts to keep Madison from public office but I've yet to find out why? This is a sincere question.
Permalink Reply by sharon ostwinch on April 1, 2012 at 3:35pm I think the only way Romney will win the conservatives is to prove that he will indeed repeal the Healthcare bill, open drilling, attack and get down gas prices. He is not liked at all, he seems fake and not to be beleived. He has an air of smugness about him. He is not the middle class and winning them would require some real efforts on his part. I see why Santorum is staying in he see the people and listens to them. He see we don't trust Romney and won't. So for him to win he has many obstacles to get over. We of course won't vote Obama but Romney will need some extra special handling to get any one to trust him.
