It isn’t often that I write a column that doesn’t have a concrete answer, but this is one of those times.

The original title of this column was going to be, “Can America survive.”  As bad as this sounds, the survival of America is not important. The survival of liberty is important.  It is the only thing that is important. Without liberty and the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution, America is just another nice place on earth.

Freedom is under assault from all sides.

The Democrat Party wants to replace our freedom with a form of socialism.  Instead of allowing the free market to give us the best healthcare in the world, the Democrats want to force everyone into a collectivized healthcare system.  When healthcare is socialized, the inevitable result is rationing.  And when healthcare is rationed by the government, without fail, they deny healthcare to the handicapped, the elderly and those who oppose the government.

The Democrats want to repeal almost the entire bill of rights.  They don’t like free speech or the right to keep and bear arms. They don’t like due process and believe that people should be prosecuted for daring to disagree with liberal orthodoxy.  They don’t believe in the 9th or 10th Amendments, instead openly desiring a massive and oppressive federal government.

There are swaths of America where these insane ideas are welcomed.  California, Illinois and New York are leading the lunatic parade.

Where does America go from here?

I don’t know the answer.

I think it is obvious we are seeing the decline of the American Republic.  The Roman Republic had a similar decline and Rome became an empire. Historically, when a Republic goes into decline, it never comes back.  And, historically, when a Republic collapses, it is almost always replaced by a dictatorship.

The political class in America seems to have very little interest in preserving liberty.  Even the Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives is only a minority within the Republican caucus.

So what does the future hold?

If Hillary Clinton wins this fall, which seems almost a certainty given Donald Trump’s unwillingness to run a serious campaign, Americans will only have a couple of choices. Either Americans can accept the decline of liberty and growing tyranny or America can break up into two or more separate nations.  Seeing America break up into separate nations is not a preferred choice but if it is that and allowing liberty to survive in at least part of America, that may be the best alternative.

Perhaps the GOP will come to its senses and in Cleveland dump Donald Trump in favor of someone else.  But even if we win, unless we have a candidate committed to radically changing the course of this nation, we are only delaying the end.

If America falls, the world will enter a new dark ages.

Where do we go from here?

I have no idea. But unless we see a miracle, the future does not look bright.

Judson, the genius of Ayn Rand was that she was convincing that our individual freedom was important to a secret group of powerful, wealthy people would make provision to preserve our freedom. It connected with the helpless feeling in all of us and the hope of being saved. I’m betting that there is no secret group making provision to save us. I believe Hillary and Trump both are part of powerful wealthy cabals that are out to destroy our freedom, not preserve it.

If Trump were serious, he would be leading us in efforts to preserve freedom. Now is the time, people are ready to follow a leader. Unfortunately, Trump is a great negotiator, and he is trying to negotiate with us to gain our votes so he can move ahead with his personal plans which have to do with creating opportunity for his personal gain. He is not interested in preserving our freedom.

The genius of the Tea Party is that it is about a chance for us to save ourselves. Don’t give up on the resilience of We the People. Previous Republics that collapsed were not founded in the belief that our freedoms were God given and God has blessed us. Don’t give up on God.

    Chaos rules the Universe.
History informs that once founded, a nation state is a determinate entity whose primary component is a government who will “progress” to maximum entropy at which condition the entity will cease to exist as a nation state.
A country on the other hand, an entity that consists of the land, the people and their lives and their institutions, is indeterminate and will not be so easily “progressed” toward a state of entropy.
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it. — Mark Twain
    Are we there yet?
“Our” nation state has a government who has “progressed” to a level that it deserves neither our support nor our respect.
